Position Overview

Moccasin Bend Mental Health Institute is seeking an Unarmed Security Guard to perform institutional security work under general supervision.

This position is responsible for protecting patients, employees, visitors, buildings, and property. The Security Guard will control access to the facility, assist with patient admissions, respond to emergencies, patrol assigned areas, monitor security systems, document incidents, and communicate with law enforcement and internal personnel when necessary.

The employee may be assigned to different shifts to support institutional security operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Admissions personnel with processing incoming patients.
  • Conduct security screenings, including metal-detector wanding and pat-down procedures.
  • Review, document, and safeguard patient belongings.
  • Respond to emergency calls and take appropriate action.
  • Respond to institutional code situations when required.
  • Control facility entrances and exits.
  • Verify the identity, purpose, and authorization of visitors and other individuals entering the facility.
  • Escort patients, visitors, staff, or other individuals when necessary to ensure their safety.
  • Prepare and maintain incident reports, visitor logs, vehicle citations, personal property reports, and related security records.
  • Report security concerns to supervisors by telephone, email, written report, or in person.
  • Communicate with law enforcement agencies to report incidents, provide information, and request assistance.
  • Patrol buildings, grounds, and other assigned areas.
  • Monitor alarms, audiovisual equipment, television monitors, and security systems.
  • Identify security hazards, disturbances, and violations of applicable policies, regulations, or laws.
  • Visually monitor individuals to support safety and compliance with facility rules.
  • Operate patrol and transport vehicles when assigned.
  • Transport valuables or individuals when required.
  • Operate two-way radios and other communication equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school.

Experience Substitution

Qualifying full-time experience in law enforcement, security, or a related field may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Other Requirements

  • A valid motor vehicle operator s license may be required.
  • Ability to work in an institutional mental-health environment.
  • Ability to work overnight, weekend, holiday, or rotating shifts as assigned.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to emergencies and institutional code situations.
  • Ability to complete security screenings, patrols, escorts, and other physical security duties.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications
Candidates who meet one or more of the following qualifications will receive preference:

  • Previous unarmed security experience.
  • Institutional, hospital, behavioral-health, or healthcare security experience.
  • Law enforcement, corrections, military police, or public-safety experience.
  • Experience responding to emergencies or institutional code situations.
  • Experience conducting security screenings, pat-downs, or metal-detector checks.
  • Experience preparing incident reports and maintaining security logs.
  • Experience operating CCTV, alarm, and access-control systems.
  • Experience working with law enforcement or emergency-response agencies.
  • A valid driver s license and experience operating patrol or transport vehicles.
  • Experience working overnight or extended shifts.
