Title: Security Lead

Position Summary:

The Lead Security staff member provides essential support to the Building Security Manager in ensuring the safety and security of students, staff, visitors, and school property. This role assists in daily operations, coordination, and supervision of security personnel and serves as a point of leadership, particularly in the absence of the Security Manager, to maintain a safe, inclusive, and positive school environment aligned with district values.

Qualifications:

  • Current District 113 security staff member
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of demonstrated, successful experience in school security, law enforcement, or a related safety field.
  • Strong leadership, communication, decision-making, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of standard methods and best practices for maintaining site safety and security.
  • Ability to build rapport with adolescents and contribute to a positive, secure school culture.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, administration, and external partners.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, adaptability, and a positive outlook amid change or challenging conditions.
  • Commitment to equity, social justice, and restorative justice practices.
  • Relevant safety or security certifications preferred (e.g., CPR, First Aid, CPI, or NASRO certification).

Essential Functions:

  • Assist the Building Security Manager with the supervision, training, and scheduling of security personnel to support school safety and security objectives.
  • Support the implementation and management of School Safety Drills, Emergency Operations Plans, and Crisis Response procedures.
  • Respond promptly to incidents or situations that may threaten the safety and security of students, staff, visitors, or school property.
  • Monitor security systems, conduct routine safety inspections, and maintain a visible presence throughout school buildings and grounds to promote a safe environment.
  • Collaborate with school administrators, faculty, and staff to address and resolve safety and security concerns.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with School Resource Officers (SROs), local law enforcement, and community safety partners.
  • Coordinate and assist with security operations for after-school programs, athletic events, and other school-sponsored activities.
  • Patrol school buildings and grounds to monitor for unauthorized individuals, suspicious activity, or safety hazards.
  • Monitor school entrances and visitor access procedures to ensure that only authorized individuals enter school facilities.
  • Assist with supervision of student arrival and dismissal to ensure safe and orderly movement on and off campus.
  • Document incidents, activities, and safety concerns through timely and accurate reports in accordance with district procedures.
  • Communicate unusual activity, safety concerns, or incidents promptly to the Building Security Manager, school administration, or District Security Director.
  • Develop positive, professional relationships with students and staff to foster a safe and supportive school climate.
  • Interact with students in a manner that reflects dignity, respect, and professionalism at all times.
  • Use conflict resolution and de-escalation strategies to address inappropriate or disruptive student behavior when appropriate.
  • Participate in required training and professional development to maintain and enhance job knowledge and skills.
  • Maintain accountability for department-issued equipment and supplies and ensure proper care and security of such items.
  • Perform all Security role responsibilities

Language Skills

Communicates clearly both in oral and written format with all constituents of the District 113 community. Effectively present information and respond to questions from constituency groups. Apply knowledge of current research and theory in a specific field. Establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with students, staff and the school community.. Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Mathematical and Technical Skills

Calculate figures, estimates, proportions, percentages, and cost projections. Apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Strong technology skills, including standard Microsoft Office suite / Google Workspace, financial management, and data analysis. .

Reasoning Ability:

Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Interpret an extensive variety of verbal and written instructions and deal with multiple abstract and concrete variables.

Contacts Outside Your Own Department:

Build positive relationships with constituents of the District 113 community that includes, teachers, school staff, administrative team, Board of Education, guardians, students, and private providers.

Physical and Mental Demands:

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision,depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Specific psychological demands of this job include the ability to remain calm under stress levels associated with job demands, along with constant contact with students, colleagues and the public.

Working Conditions:

  • In the work environment, this role is regularly exposed to office environmental conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with regular exposure to loud classrooms, hallways, cafeterias or sports venues.
  • The employee is regularly required to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with the public and staff in addition to meeting multiple demands from several people.
  • The employee is frequently required to work irregular or extended work hours, which may include evenings or weekends.

As a part of the District workforce, this role is responsible for being aware of, modeling and contributing to the maintenance and implementation of all District safety policies and procedures. The role is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of students.
