POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

 

POSITION: SECURITY AND NETWORK SPECIALIST

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

This position is responsible for the technical equipment and systems used for safety and security on all campuses of the college, which include but are not limited to video surveillance cameras and cabling, intrusion detection systems, emergency notification systems, and wireless communication. The Specialist will work with appropriate Network personnel to identify needs, perform research, present alternatives, and then deploy, install, and configure equipment and systems.  This position will also troubleshoot, repair, or replace defective or obsolete equipment and expand or modify installations as needed. This position will also train or arrange training for end users of the systems.

 

MAJOR DUTIES:

PRIMARY DUTIES:

• Installs and configures equipment such as, but not limited to, cameras for surveillance systems, cabling, multiway communication devices, and alarm systems control panels and sensors.

• Maintains all safety and security technology equipment – including troubleshooting, reconfiguring, and ordering and installing repair parts as necessary.

• Ensures that safety and security systems operate in a consistent and reliable manner.

• Monitors system performance to ensure efficient operation, with no negative performance impact on or interruption of other systems of the college, such as email, Internet, and student records access.

• Identifies the need for system upgrades as necessary to avoid obsolescence, system failures due to wear and age, and to improve the overall safety and security of the college campuses, faculty, students, staff, and guests.

• Responds to helpdesk requests by operators of installed safety and security equipment.

• Maintains an accurate inventory of all equipment related to safety and security systems.

SECONDARY DUTIES

• Identifies new systems and equipment, regarding technology, necessary for the safety and security of the college and its students, faculty, staff, and guests.

• Performs research into alternatives available regarding technology solutions to safety and security needs, with an emphasis on camera surveillance systems.

• Drafts specifications for new equipment and systems for safety and security, ensuring interoperability and integration with existing systems across all campuses.

• Provides training on the effective use of safety and security systems.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

SPECIALIZED DUTIES

• Responds to the needs of the Network team including the Network Administrator, Network Engineer, and Unified Communications Engineer by assisting team members when necessary.

• Assists with maintaining an accurate inventory of all equipment related to Network and Unified Communications.

• Assists with deployment of equipment related to Network and Unified Communications as needed.

• Performs other Network and Unified Communications related duties as assigned.

MORALE, COMMUNICATION, COMPLIANCE

• Responds to the needs of the department and the college by assisting other team members when necessary.

• Position may demand irregular hours to ensure equipment is installed, configured, and maintained in a manner to minimize the impact on the operations of the college on all campuses.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Associate degree *and* Three (3) years of work related experience.

• Note: Experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in a course of study related to the occupational field of the position and sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position.

• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

 

SALARY/BENEFITS: $45,301.59 annually. Benefits include paid holidays, annual leave, and the State of Georgia Flexible Benefits Program. Please be aware that Chattahoochee Tech employees will be paid by direct deposit, unless exempted by the State Accounting Office based on “hardship” evidence provided by the employee.
