Job Summary:

The Security Officer protects the interests of the Hospital by patrolling buildings and grounds, enforcing procedural rules and regulations, and ensuring the personal safety of staff, visitors, families and property. Maintains security and safety for assigned areas. Maintains a working knowledge of the locations of various departments, buildings, access routes and admitting requirements. Responds to emergency situations, and documents any incidents. Provides logistical support including, scheduling LaVan and Oncology ride services and ensuring hospital vehicle maintenance. Escorts personnel to and from parking lots and performs other job-related tasks as needed.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  1. Patrols Hospital buildings and grounds.
  • Patrols assigned areas including garages and other parking areas. Checks for suspicious occurrences and enforces property rules and regulations.
  • Verifies vehicles in Hospital and private parking lots for authorized parking stickers. Issues parking violation warnings and tags and requests towing when necessary.
  • Opens and closes off-site facilities, ensuring that users have left the premises. Secures and alarms said facilities.
  • Reports security and general maintenance problems to proper authorities.
  • Permits authorized personnel to enter property; controls keys; perform additional functions incidental to security.
  • Operates and monitors security control panels, alarms and related security equipment to provide area and visitor surveillance.
  • Maintains radio communication at all time with work team monitoring all areas.
  1. Responds to and investigates security situations.
  • Responds immediately to Hospital emergency codes, taking appropriate action and steps needed to ensure the safety of patients, visitors and Hospital personnel.
  • Responds to and investigates situations reported to the security department, calling appropriate law enforcement if necessary.
  • Calls on appropriate hospital administration as needed in investigating suspicious activities or security violations that require intervention.
  • Responds to control alarms including security, HVAC and fire safety and to monitor activities to the public.
  • Replenish the infant security transmitter and banding material supplies as needed.
  • Processes ACI inmate patients according to policy
  • Accurately interprets policies and procedures and their application in circumstances not yet encountered.
  • Demonstrates sound decision-making skills, taking actions that are logical, timely and proportionate to situation.
  • Verifies ID cards of persons entering facility, taking appropriate action against those who cannot provide proper authorizations or cause for being admitted.
  • Provides information and directions. Explains rules and regulations.
  • Promptly notifies supervisor of any significant incidents that have occurred.
  1. Maintains logs and records of occurrences, generating reports as requested.
  • Maintains logs and records of occurrences, completing necessary paperwork and uses computer terminal to input and retrieve data as appropriate.
  • Extracts and compiles a range of data from written sources and individuals.
  • Assists in filing material using a straightforward alpha, numerical or chronological system.
  • Understands non routine notes, written instructions and general policy statements.
  • Completes typewritten/computerized report on all incidences.
  1. Provides assistance, information, and/or escort to visitors, patients and Hospital personnel as required.
  • Provides courteous assistance to visitors, patients and other staff, giving accurate information or directing to appropriate party as necessary.
  • Provides escort to parking lots and other hospital sites as needed.
  • Assists and cooperates with visitors, patients, and Hospital personnel on security-related issues.
  • Collects and transports money and handles small amounts of cash transactions when necessary. Is responsible for lost and found items.
  • Perform infant car seat if certified, tire change and jump starts.
  1. Provides logistical support including, scheduling LaVan and Oncology ride services, expediting deliveries to other departments, and ensuring hospital vehicle maintenance.
  • Accurately assesses and schedules the timing of patient rides to ensure on time appointment arrivals.
  • Records general maintenance and reports all vehicle issues in a timely manner.
  • Expedites deliveries to fulfill various Hospital department needs and requests
  1. Develops and maintains in-depth knowledge of all areas relating to job duties.
  • Keeps abreast of Hospital wide/Security Department Organizational policies and procedures.
  • Maintains detailed knowledge of narrow areas of hospital academic, administrative and financial rules and procedures.
  • Participates in seminars, conferences and in-services as appropriate for job.
  • Demonstrates initiative in enhancing knowledge relating to job and seeking greater responsibilities.
  1. Preserves and protects confidentiality of patient, employee, and Hospital information.
  • Demonstrates discretion in confidential matters concerning the Hospital, patients and Hospital personnel.
  • Treats patient and employee files, documents and other materials with the utmost security.
  1. Performs other job-related duties as required or requested.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date logs and other paperwork required for job responsibilities.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in work schedule in staffing alternating or rotating shifts, and willingly provides back-up and assistance to staff as needed during absences or emergencies.
  • Cooperatively participates in special projects for department or Hospital as requested.
  • Performs other job-related duties as requested by supervisor.
Requirements:
  • Entry level computer skills preferred. 
  • Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Valid and current State driver’s license
  • 1-3 years experience
  • High school or GED required
