GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Security Officer I, II and III patrols assigned areas and enforces rules and regulations to safeguard life and property from accidental or malicious damage.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Observes grounds and buildings to detect suspicious activities or circumstances.
• Prepares reports and maintains security logs.
• Reports suspicious person(s) if unable to safely inquire into the nature of their business at the location.
• Apprises the person of the rules and regulations governing their presence on the center property and warns the violator of the penalties of infractions.
• Calls law enforcement officials to report the presence of unauthorized persons.
• Identifies persons suspected of minor violations and reports them to law enforcement officials.
• Reports hazards, broken windows, and other conditions affecting the security of the building to other appropriate officials.
• Conducts monitoring of all smoke and fire alarm systems to ensure they are operable, free, and clear of obstructions.
• Coordinates work schedules and post coverage when needed.
• Provides relief for security officers when needed.
• Composes and proofreads routine incident reports.
• Detains unruly, belligerent, violent, intoxicated, and emotionally disturbed person(s) through the use of deescalation or by the use of force if necessary for the treatment of incarceration.
• Monitors and communicates with local police, sheriff, fire departments, ambulance, and emergency management civil defense when emergencies occur to ensure preparedness by the Cherokee Nation properties for any disaster situation that may develop.
• Maintains a thorough knowledge of laws at federal, state, tribal, and city-level regarding activities within the facility.
• Responsible for greeting at the facility, giving directions and assistance, being of service, and rendering to any employee, patron, or person who may request or require it.
• Responsible to provide protection for the physical assets of Cherokee Nation properties.
• Responsible for patrolling the physical facilities of the Cherokee Nation properties, which include properties located in Cherokee County, OK, and other areas when assigned as requested.
• Performs other duties, tasks, and services consistent with this position as assigned.
LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY
SECURITY OFFICER I AND II
• Performs work under direct supervision.
• Handles basic issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff.
SECURITY OFFICER III
• Performs work under minimal supervision.
• Handles complex issues and problems and refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff.
• Possesses comprehensive knowledge of subject matter.
QUALIFICATIONS
SECURITY OFFICER I
• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
SECURITY OFFICER II and III
• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
• Six (6) months of experience in a related field

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS - ALL LEVELS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk to hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, climb or balance, and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to correct/adjust focus.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
SECURITY OFFICER I
• Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.
• Possess or obtain First Aid and CPR certifications within 90 days of hire and maintain throughout employment.
• Possess or obtain Oklahoma CLEET Phase I and II certification and Unarmed Security Licenses within 180 days of hire and maintain throughout employment.
SECURITY OFFICER II
• Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.
• Possess or obtain First Aid and CPR certification within 90 days of hire and maintain throughout employment.
• Possess or obtain CLEET certification phase I and II (unarmed) and maintain throughout employment.
• Possess or obtain a State of Oklahoma Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training Unarmed Security License and maintain throughout employment.
SECURITY OFFICER III
• Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.
• Possess or obtain First Aid and CPR certification within 90 days of hire and maintain throughout employment.
• Possess or obtain CLEET certification – Armed Security Officer (Phase I & II unarmed) and (IV armed) or Basic Peace Officer/Reserve Peace Officer and maintain throughout employment.
• Possess or obtain a State of Oklahoma Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training Armed Security License within 45 days of hire and maintain throughout employment.
• Must obtain a Commission Card from the Cherokee Nation Office of the Marshal for authorization to carry a firearm on Cherokee Nation property.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
• The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
• Must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care.
