Security Officer II

The Security Officer II is responsible for providing security screening services that seek to create a safe and secure environment for the hospital community. The Security Officer II undertakes activities designed to identify, deter, abate, or correct situations; both routine and emergent that are within the scope of responsibility for the department, as they occur on hospital owned or controlled property.

Responsibilities:
- Patrol hospital buildings and premises to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and intruders.
- Monitor conduct of visitors on hospital premises.
- Confront unauthorized persons for questioning as needed.
- Screen visitors, patients, and team members at entrances.
- Report safety and/or fire hazards or security violations.
- Complete incident report on any significant security incident or concern, relays safety related information as appropriate
Qualifications:
Education:
- High School diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice preferred
Licensure/Certifications:
- Must obtain Iowa weapons permit and be Taser certified within 30 days
- Certification from International Association of Healthcare Security & Safety (if not certified, must obtain certification within 90 days) or commiserate experience
- Valid driver’s license
Experience:
- 1 year relevant safety and security experience
- Military, law enforcement and/or security experience is highly preferred
Other:
- Ability to de-escalate violent, aggressive, or disruptive persons
- Use of critical thinking in a high stress environment
- Excellent observation skills
