Security Officer

George Washington's Mount Vernon is hiring Full-Time Security Officers (In Training) to support visitor safety, estate security, and customer service across its historic grounds and buildings

Position Overview

Security Officers maintain a professional presence, ensure the safety of visitors and staff, and respond to emergencies. The role includes both indoor and outdoor duties in historic settings, with opportunities for paid training and a comprehensive benefits package

Compensation & Schedule

• Pay: $18.00/hour (increases to $20.00 after completing SCOP training)
• Hours: 40 hours/week/overtime available

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain a professional security presence and provide customer service at assigned posts
• Ensure safety and security of visitors, staff, and estate operations
• Respond to alarms, emergencies, and incidents; take immediate action to prevent harm or damage
• Provide accident/incident reports and maintain all required security certifications
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisory personnel

Minimum Qualifications

• Age: 21+ years
• Education: High school diploma or GED
• Certification: Current Virginia D.C.J.S. SCOP registration; Fairfax County endorsement preferred
• Experience: Previous security/SCOP experience preferred
• Background: Must pass thorough background investigation by Fairfax County Police
• License: Valid driver's license with clean driving and police records
• Skills: Excellent verbal/written communication, incident report writing, customer service, calm decision-making under pressure
• Flexibility: Ability to work weekends/holidays and non-traditional hours

• May require extended standing/walking
• Must pass all background checks and training requirements
• Work in varied indoor/outdoor settings, including historic buildings and public spaces

Work Environment: Roles involve patrolling, surveillance, and guest interaction in all weather conditions, with potential for high activity periods
