Job Summary and Qualifications

Provides a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, medical staff, employees and their property as well as ensures the security of the buildings and property of the Hospital.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Under the direct supervision of the Director of Security and within established departmental policies and procedures, the incumbent performs the following functions: 
  • Conducts regularly-scheduled patrols of Hospital buildings and grounds, checking all doors, windows, alarms and firefighting equipment (extinguishers, etc.).Patrols employee parking lot and garage areas to ensure safety of employees ,patients and visitors. 
  • Documents all activity including rounds in the Security Log. Prepares online incident occurrence reports as needed. 
  • Responds to emergency situations including all codes; Code Amber, Black, Blue, Gray, Green, Red, Orange, Purple, Silver, Yellow, White and Condition H, in addition to any other Hospital Code or stat situation. 
  • Assists authorized employees and physicians requiring access to certain hospital areas. 
  • Assists with the lifting and transportation of deceased persons and their property to the hospital morgue. Provides release of deceased persons and their property after obtaining proper authorization from hospital supervisor. Maintains precise “chain of custody” records in this matter. 
  • Coordinates with the Mom’s Place for all infant and fetal demise issues. 
  • Maintains radio communication via two-way radio with hospital switchboard and other security officers and responds to requests made by the switchboard on behalf of patients, employees, physicians and visitors. 
  • Provides courtesy escorts 24-7 to employees, patients, visitors when requested. 
  • Responds in an efficient and professional manners when responding to disasters, fire drills ,fires and other emergency situations. 
  • Ensures confidentiality of senior management, patient information and Hospital matters. Maintains good communications, and establishes and maintains positive working relationships with employees, senior management, media and the public. 
  • Exercises care in the operation and use of equipment and reference materials. Performs routine cleaning and preventative maintenance to ensure continuing functioning of equipment. Maintains work areas in a clean, safe and organized manner. 
  • Responsible for the efficient handling of patient valuables and lost and found items. Follows established procedure on maintenance and tracking of patient valuables and lost and found property. 
  • Responsible for the proper handling and securing of items that may or may not be of evidentiary value in the furtherance of any criminal or internal investigation, ensuring that the proper chain of custody is followed and documented. 
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned.

What qualifications will you need: 

  • High School graduate or equivalent. Post-secondary education preferred.
  • Prior security, law enforcement, or military experience preferred.
  • A working knowledge of computers and Microsoft products is required.
  • Strong customer service skills preferred. 
  • Current valid driver’s license required. Must be able to provide a certified copy of motor vehicle history from the state DMV in which the applicant resides. 
  • Applicant must not have any misdemeanor or felony level motor vehicle convictions or pending license suspension or revocation. 
  • Applicant must successfully pass a criminal background check without any convictions for misdemeanor or felony level criminal offenses. 
  • Applicant must successfully pass a written exam for Basic Security Officer Certification through IAHSS within 6 months of employment, and subsequent recertification dates as required by IAHSS. 
  • Must be able to obtain initial and annual certification for issued equipment (i.e.handcuffs,O.C. spray, and Taser)
