Summary
The Security Officer protects students, employees, visitors, and College property by maintaining a safe, secure, and orderly environment at the Spartan Student Housing and the Spartan Tulsa and RVS campuses. The position enforces all rules, regulations, and policies of the College; conducts foot and vehicle patrols; controls access to College facilities; responds to alarms, medical emergencies, and other incidents; de-escalates conflict; and documents all activity through accurate written reports.
This is a uniformed, shift-based position reporting to the Manager of Campus Security. Availability for nights, weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, and mandatory overtime during emergencies, special events, or staffing shortages is required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk for extended periods, including patrolling on foot over stairs, curbs, and uneven outdoor surfaces for the majority of an eight (8) to twelve (12) hour shift; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to climb stairs and ladders, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, and push or pull doors and gates. The employee is occasionally required to sit, balance, crawl, and run short distances in response to an emergency.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds, and may occasionally be required to assist, support, or physically move an individual during an emergency. The employee must be able to wear and carry the assigned uniform and required duty equipment for the duration of the shift, and to operate a vehicle. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, night vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires hearing sufficient to monitor radio traffic and to detect alarms and calls for assistance, and the ability to communicate clearly by voice and radio in noisy or emergency conditions.
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and requires regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, wind, rain, ice, and snow. The employee may be exposed to vehicle and aircraft traffic, aviation maintenance and shop environments, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and loud noise. The position carries a foreseeable risk of contact with hostile, agitated, or physically confrontational individuals and of exposure to bloodborne pathogens. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may be loud in shop, hangar, or flight-line areas. Shift work, including nights, weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, and mandatory overtime, is required.
