Position Summary: The Security Officer helps maintain a safe and secure environment for guests, employees, and property at Brighton Resort. Working under the direction of the Security & Loss Prevention Manager, the Officer provides visible patrol presence, responds to incidents, deters theft and trespassing, and supports guest and employee safety. The Officer works alongside on-duty and off-duty law enforcement officers (LEOs) whenever a matter is criminal or legal in nature, documenting incidents and assisting until law enforcement takes over. The Officer is an unarmed private security officer and does not hold law enforcement authority.

  • Discounted Brighton lift tickets for friends & family
  • Access to discounted lift tickets at multiple ski areas

Responsibilities

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily patrols throughout resort facilities, including the Brighton Center, Brighton Store, parking lots, lift lines, rental and retail locations, and other designated areas.
  • Respond promptly to disturbances, thefts, injuries, trespassing, and other incidents, ensuring accurate documentation and appropriate escalation or de-escalation as needed.
  • Work with law enforcement officers on all criminal or legal matters, including pass fraud, trespassing, and guest or employee offenses: observe and report, preserve evidence, provide information and statements, and assist until law enforcement takes over.
  • Enforce resort policy on non-criminal matters and refer guest or employee removals, pass revocations, and trespass notices to the Manager for determination.
  • Assist with pass and ticket fraud reports and lost-and-found or stolen equipment incidents (skis, snowboards), working with the ticket office and the Manager.
  • Control access to restricted areas such as back-of-house and staff areas, checking credentials as directed.
  • Assist with crowd control, lost persons, and intoxicated or disorderly guests in accordance with resort policy and Utah law.
  • Respond to alarms and emergencies (medical, weather, lost persons) and provide First Aid, CPR, and AED care until Ski Patrol or other first responders arrive.
  • Collaborate with Ski Patrol, Facilities, and Operations teams to ensure coordinated response during emergencies.
  • Complete daily activity and incident reports on the security log forms, and report all criminal activity, guest removals, and pass revocations to the Manager before the end of each shift.
  • Participate in safety inspections, emergency preparedness drills, and required training, including de-escalation and security awareness.
  • Represent Brighton Resort in a professional and composed manner at all times, and maintain positive guest relations.

Qualifications

Qualifications & Certifications

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Current Utah Unarmed Private Security Officer license from the Division of Occupational & Professional Licensing (DOPL), required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire. Licensing includes a DOPL-approved 8-hour basic training course and a fingerprint-based background check.
  • Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification, provided through resort-arranged training if not already held.
  • DOPL licensing and First Aid/CPR/AED training costs are covered by the resort upon successful completion.
  • Prior experience in security, loss prevention, law enforcement, guest services, or a related public safety field preferred.
  • Proven ability to exercise sound judgment under pressure, de-escalate tense situations, and respond effectively in high-stress situations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and report-writing skills.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and the ability to drive in winter mountain conditions.
  • Physically able to patrol on foot in variable mountain weather, including ice, snow, and inclined surfaces - this is an active, outdoor role, not a desk position.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Availability for weekends and holidays, with flexibility for weekday evening shifts as scheduled.

Uniform: A uniform is provided at no cost to the Officer; the Officer is responsible for the cost of replacing a lost uniform. The uniform clearly identifies the wearer as resort security and does not resemble a law enforcement uniform. The Officer carries the DOPL license and government ID and presents them when asked.

Scope of Authority: The Security Officer is a private security officer and does not have the powers of a police or peace officer. The Officer does not make arrests (other than what Utah law allows any private citizen), issue citations, or represent themselves as law enforcement. When criminal activity occurs, the Officer observes, reports, keeps guests and staff safe, and contacts law enforcement; enforcement actions are handled by law enforcement officers. Non-criminal administrative actions, including guest or employee removal, trespass enforcement, and pass revocation, follow resort policy and are determined by the Security & Loss Prevention Manager.
