    Position

    Summary:

    Under

    general

    supervision,

    the

    Security

    Systems

    Specialist

    provides

    advanced

    technical,

    operational,

    and

    project-coordination

    support

    for

    the

    district's

    physical-security

    program.

    The

    position

    plans,

    evaluates,

    configures,

    coordinates,

    and

    supports

    integrated

    security

    technologies,

    including

    video

    surveillance,

    electronic

    access

    control,

    intrusion

    alarms,

    and

    related

    network-based

    systems.

    The

    Security

    Systems

    Specialist

    serves

    as

    a

    technical

    liaison

    among

    Safety

    and

    Security,

    Technology

    Services,

    Facilities,

    school

    administrators,

    architects,

    contractors,

    and

    service

    providers;

    supports

    security

    assessments

    and

    investigations;

    and

    provides

    recommendations

    that

    strengthen

    the

    safety

    and

    security

    of

    district

    facilities,

    students,

    staff,

    and

    visitors.

    Essential

    Duties

    and

    Responsibilities

    Adhere

    to

    all

    state,

    federal,

    and

    local

    laws,

    policies,

    and

    procedures

    Represent

    the

    Safety

    and

    Security

    Department

    in

    meetings

    to

    develop

    and

    implement

    recommended

    security

    systems

    for

    all

    renovation

    projects

    and

    new

    construction.

    Serve

    as

    a

    liaison

    with

    architects,

    project

    managers,

    site

    administrators,

    and

    construction

    representatives

    during

    the

    design

    and

    construction

    of

    facilities.

    Serve

    as

    a

    liaison

    with

    representatives

    of

    the

    Durham

    Public

    Schools

    Technology

    Services

    Department

    in

    matters

    related

    to

    the

    operation

    of

    surveillance

    cameras

    and

    other

    security

    systems.

    Review

    technology

    trends

    and

    network

    equipment

    needed

    to

    maintain

    an

    acceptable

    level

    of

    operation

    for

    existing

    security

    systems

    and

    future

    growth,

    improving

    security-related

    technologies

    and

    strategies.

    Maintain

    a

    competent

    level

    of

    knowledge

    to

    develop

    and

    integrate

    maps

    and

    floor

    plans

    using

    the

    software

    features

    of

    the

    security

    systems

    and

    create

    hard

    paper

    drawings.

    Evaluate

    installed

    cameras

    and

    door

    access

    devices

    and

    other

    related

    equipment

    for

    repair,

    replacement,

    and

    upgrades.

    Act

    as

    primary

    contact

    with

    the

    provider

    of

    the

    Maintenance

    Service

    Contract

    to

    facilitate

    repairs

    or

    replacement

    of

    camera

    and

    door

    access

    systems.

    Provide

    and

    coordinate

    training

    to

    site-based

    administrators

    related

    to

    efficient

    use

    of

    their

    security

    systems.

    Participate

    in

    site

    assessment

    reviews

    to

    evaluate

    security

    and

    make

    recommendations

    for

    improvement

    Assist

    with

    investigations

    when

    requested

    Assist

    with

    HR

    investigations

    when

    requested

    alarm

    reports

    to

    determine

    activation

    cause

    and

    recommend

    prevention

    measures

    Notify

    school

    administrators

    of

    alarms,

    potential

    security

    risks,

    and

    make

    recommendations

    for

    prevention.

    Review

    camera

    history

    and

    report

    information

    and

    areas

    of

    concern

    to

    administrators

    Prepare

    documents

    and

    provide

    recommendations

    regarding

    school

    security

    matters

    Assist

    the

    Assistant

    Director

    of

    Security

    on

    all

    security

    management

    matters

    and

    issues.

    Perform

    other

    security

    duties

    that

    the

    Assistant

    Director

    and

    the

    Executive

    Director

    of

    Safety

    and

    Security

    may

    assign.

    Additional

    duties

    may

    be

    assigned

    based

    on

    immediate

    safety

    and

    security

    needs

    as

    they

    arise

    Minimum

    Qualifications

    A

    bachelor's

    degree

    is

    preferred

    in

    a

    technical

    discipline,

    such

    as

    information

    or

    engineering

    technology.

    Need

    experience

    with

    networks

    and

    components

    and

    capacity

    to

    increase

    knowledge

    and

    hands-on

    involvement

    with

    network-based

    security

    systems.

    Minimum

    3

    years'

    experience

    in

    safety/security

    with

    responsibility

    for

    developing

    and

    implementing

    security

    system

    design,

    training

    plans,

    and

    project

    coordination.

    Experience

    preferred

    in

    Crime

    Prevention

    through

    Environmental

    Design

    (CPTED).

    Must

    possess

    a

    valid

    North

    Carolina

    driver's

    license.
