Definition
Under direction, is responsible for supervising and participating in the work of monitoring and patrolling of City property and/or monitoring community areas to evaluate and report on unusual or suspicious activity, and controlling access to City buildings and facilities; performs related duties as required.
Examples of Work

Supervises employees, to include conducting performance evaluations, approving/disapproving leave requests, and/or initiating disciplinary action;
Assigns tasks to workers for completion based on priority of work;
Oversees monitoring of closed-circuit television, video recorders, computers, video surveillance monitors, or control panels; monitors system when necessary;
Ensures staff accurately detects unusual situations and reports such activity to the appropriate authorities;
Trains employees on safety and security procedures; recommends improvements or changes to these procedures;
Oversees all aspects of building security systems;
Reports unusual situations; operates radio equipment or telephones to dispatch the necessary assistance;
Maintains all aspects of personal access control card system;
Develops forms, logs, and reports; oversees entry into the logs;
Oversees alarm response procedures;
Coordinates on-site building evacuations and emergencies; works closely with uniformed response units during building emergencies when needed;
Secures area if packages are delivered that are suspected of containing hazardous or explosive material;
Provides customer service involving answering the telephone and/or face-to-face contact in order to greet the public, take complaints, and answer inquiries;
Responds to duress alarms, fire alarms, and other related problems;
Designs and enforces action plans related to specific alarms;
Reviews and maintains closed-circuit television tapes;
May operate metal detecting devices and x-ray machines to scan for potentially dangerous items;
May testify in hearings.
Minimum Qualifications
Four (4) years of experience performing security work.
Possession of a valid driver's license.

The names of the applicants passing this administration of this exam will be used to create a NEW, OPEN COMPETITIVE, eligible list, and will replace the names on the current list. The examination process will consist of a situational judgment (SJT) exam weighted 30% covering problem scenarios with response options; a computerized examination weighted 70%, covering reading comprehension, problem sensitivity, logic and reasoning, information ordering, and 2016/2019 Outlook, Word, and Excel.
The exam is expected to be administered in September 2026. Approved applicants will be notified by mail/email of their scheduled test date and time.
All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidates name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and a pre-employment drug test.
