POSITION TITLE: Security Technician

EXEMPTION STATUS: Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO: Director of Technology

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 months

HOURLY SALARY RANGE: Minimum $23.93, Midpoint $29.91, Maximum $35.89

Primary Purpose

Install, troubleshoot, repair, upgrade, and support technology resources. Provide technical assistance for staff to facilitate the use of technology in the classroom or office.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification

Associate Degree in a computer related field or one year of IT related work experience or CompTIA A+ Technology Certification preferred

Valid Texas driver's license with appropriate insurance coverage

Special Knowledge/Skills

Strong organizational, communication (verbal and written), customer service, problem-solving skills Ability to communicate technical terms and concepts to non-technical users

Strong skills in technical support and maintenance

Strong technical skills and experience in Microsoft, Apple, Google, and any educational technologies

Help desk experience and ability to understand and model excellent customer service practices and techniques

Experience

One year technical support experience in a managed, networked environment, preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Installation and Repair

  • Diagnose and resolve problems in electronic security systems following established inspection procedures.
  • Install, repair, and maintain electronic cameras, recorders, and security software using manuals, specifications, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Install and maintain the district's ID badge system to include electronic door access equipment.
  • Respond to emergency and routine service calls as needed.
  • Recommend repair or replacement of electronic security systems and equipment based on district needs. Estimate costs and assist with the preparation of formal bids.
  • Provide installation and technical assistance to teachers and administrators for district-supported software, hardware, and peripherals.
  • Assist with technology rollouts, upgrades, modifications, and service implementation.
  • Install, update, troubleshoot and repair all end user devices and software to support classroom instruction and administrative applications.
  • Provide technical support and quality customer service in person, remotely via the network, and/or over the phone to end users, including working at the Help Desk as assigned.
  • Accurately document and maintain trouble tickets from first notification to resolution in district service management system.
  • Diagnose, assess and repair/maintain hardware or software related issues to assure on-time, quality repair, installation, and/or configuration of district information technology resources.
  • Document product installations, upgrades, issues, tips/tricks, technical support notes, etc.
  • Add, delete, move, and maintain computer objects within Active Directory.
  • Replace parts when required, including completing RMA requirements in a timely manner.

Communication

  • Foster and promote effective use of information technology to improve teacher practice and student learning by sharing technical knowledge and insight.
  • Follow-up and inform customers of call status and call resolution in a timely and consistent manner.
  • Escalate technical service calls to appropriate personnel based on operating procedures and call analysis rules.

Policy, Reports and Law

  • Demonstrate and model compliance with the employee acceptable usage policy and other board policies regarding data and electronic communications networks.
  • Demonstrate discretion and professionalism when accessing systems that may contain sensitive information and comply with district policy, regulations, and/or directives regarding information security and privacy practices.

Inventory

  • Manage, monitor, and track district software licenses to ensure End User License Agreement compliance.
  • Manage, monitor and track district technology hardware through the district's inventory system.
  • Perform an annual inventory audit of any assigned campus and provide the campus leadership with a report of that audit.
  • Ensure disposal of surplus or obsolete equipment in accordance with district procedures.

Safety

  • Ensure equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Other

  • Prepare and maintain accurate written records of services provided.
  • Train district employees to use security systems.
  • Provide appropriate security tapes as directed.
  • Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects.

  • Keep informed of and comply with federal and state laws and district policies and regulations concerning job function.
  • Maintain familiarity with the district's initiatives to better serve the needs of students.
  • Attend professional growth activities to keep abreast of information management and technology services.

Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals, alarms, cameras, recorders, hand and power tools for electronic repairs and cabling installations, ladders and lifts, light truck or van

Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; frequent kneeling/squatting/crouching, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, climbing, twisting; reaching with arms extended

Motion: Continual walking, climbing stairs/ladders, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, reaching, reaching overhead, keyboarding and use of mouse, driving

Lifting: Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds without assistance, 30-55 pounds with assistance, and more than 55 pounds with appropriate assistance

Environment: Frequent exposure to extreme temperatures; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions, in small spaces, may be exposed to electrical hazards, outside and inside; frequent in-district travel; occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours; work with frequent interruptions

Mental Demands: On call 24 hours a day. Maintain emotional control under stress.
