Job Description

General Purpose of Job:

Performs general radiology exams on emergency room patients, inpatients, and outpatients in accordance with physicians' orders. Performs all duties and responsibilities under the supervision of a registered radiology technologist.

Essential Duties:

This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.

  • Prepares patients for radiology examinations by explaining procedure to be performed and positioning patients so that targeted parts of the body can be properly imaged.
  • Performs general radiology exams and on emergency room patients, inpatients, and outpatients in accordance with physicians' orders.
  • Images and sends via PACs radiology exam cases to the radiologist in a timely manner.
  • Assists radiologist with specialized procedures as directed.
  • Prepares and documents all information in Epic for the completion of the exam and billing.
  • Performs a variety of clerical tasks including answering phones, assisting patients throughout the department as needed, and inputting patient information into the Epic medical record.
  • Assists with maintaining radiology equipment and radiology rooms; assists with performing quality control measures to assure all equipment is functioning properly.
  • Assists with maintaining an adequate inventory of radiology supplies and assist technologists with keeping them stocked.
  • Transports patients to/from various departments within the Hospital as needed.
  • Attends staff meetings and in-service programs.
  • Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, values, and customer service initiatives. Adheres to the organization's policies & procedures, and compliance guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

General Requirements Must be enrolled in an accredited radiography program and be within 1 year of graduation Work Experience None Education Student in or completion of an accredited Radiology Technology program is required Specialized Knowledge and Skills Knowledge and understanding of a wide range of radiology exam procedures and techniques Knowledge of accrediting and regulatory standards and hospital policies related to the radiology function including HIPAA confidentiality and JCAHO mandates Written and computer skills necessary to prepare required documentation Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians, and other Hospital staff in the exchange of information. The incumbent is also required to communicate technical information in non-technical terms Ability to read, speak, write and understand the English language clearly Analytical ability to assess patients' condition and determine appropriate radiographic techniques to be utilized Mental ability to adapt and respond to multiple priorities and demands, deal with the emotional needs/concerns of patients who may be combative at times, complete multiple radiographic exams in a timely manner, work on tasks requiring accuracy and attention to detail, and appropriately respond to emergency/trauma situations Physical ability to stand for prolonged periods of time, transfer/lift/ position patients, and properly operate radiology equipment/ devices
