Duties
The Special Education Cross-Cat Teacher provides targeted instruction and support to 1st - 3rd grade students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), with a primary focus on delivering services as outlined in each student's IEP. This position ensures that students receive appropriate accommodations, modifications, and specialized instruction to support academic growth and progress toward IEP goals. In addition, overseeing program assistants that have been assigned to the classroom to help with these students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide direct instruction in all subject areas that are aligned to students' IEP goals and grade-level standards
- Deliver specially designed instruction in small group and/or individual settings based on service minutes outlined in IEPs
- Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals; maintain accurate and timely records
- Develop, implement, and update IEPs in compliance with federal, state, and district regulations
- Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusion, differentiation, and accommodations within the classroom
- Modify curriculum, assignments, and assessments to meet diverse learning needs
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, interventions, and data-driven practices to support student achievement
- Participate in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and multidisciplinary team meetings
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and needs
- Implement behavior supports and interventions as needed
- Ensure compliance with all special education timelines, documentation, and legal requirements
Qualifications
- Valid state teaching license with endorsement in Special Education (LBS1 or equivalent)
- Experience working with elementary students, preferably in grades 1-3.
- Strong knowledge instructional practices, interventions, and following a Behavior Plan.
- Familiarity with IEP development, progress monitoring, and compliance requirements
- Ability to analyze student data and adjust instruction accordingly
- Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills
