Senior Superintendent – Self-Perform Concrete / General Trades

Denver, CO | On-Site | Commercial Construction
Estimated Compensation: $110,000 – $170,000 base salary, depending on experience

A nationally recognized commercial general contractor with a long-standing presence in the Denver market is seeking a Senior Superintendent / Self-Perform Operations Leader to oversee concrete and general trades scopes on complex commercial building projects.

This is a strong opportunity for a field leader who has deep technical experience managing self-perform concrete work, coordinating trade labor, driving production, and partnering closely with project teams to deliver safe, high-quality work on schedule.

This position is not remote or hybrid and will be based out of a Denver-area office and/or active project site.

Position Overview

The Senior Superintendent will plan, lead, direct, and coordinate self-perform operations staff, trade labor, subcontractors, and suppliers on concrete and general trades projects. This person will be responsible for ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project schedule, quality expectations, production goals, and contract requirements.

The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in commercial construction, specialty concrete scopes, and field leadership, with added value for candidates who have worked on larger vertical construction projects involving drilled piers, grade beams, flatwork/slabs, and vertical cores.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day self-perform concrete and general trades operations in coordination with the broader project team.

  • Sequence field work to meet project schedules, production targets, and manpower plans.

  • Coordinate with Project Superintendents, General Superintendents, Trades Managers, forepersons, subcontractors, and suppliers.

  • Establish weekly production goals with trade forepersons and monitor progress against planned productivity.

  • Track installed quantities, percent complete, manpower needs, material deliveries, and field production performance.

  • Oversee trade labor assignments and help adjust crews or work practices to improve productivity.

  • Support hiring, staffing, and labor planning for self-perform trade teams.

  • Build and maintain relationships with labor sources to identify qualified field talent.

  • Plan and manage logistics, scheduling, quality control, safety compliance, and staffing levels.

  • Resolve field issues related to procedures, design clarifications, labor availability, equipment, and sequencing.

  • Develop and implement project-specific safety planning in compliance with company standards and applicable codes.

  • Ensure daily pre-task planning and Job Hazard Analysis practices are being followed.

  • Supervise trade forepersons and provide coaching, development feedback, and performance input.

  • Communicate with owners, owner representatives, architects, engineers, and internal project leadership to resolve field issues.

  • Manage monthly work-in-place estimates, payroll review, material invoices, and subcontractor payment applications.

  • Confirm work is installed in compliance with approved contract documents, drawings, specifications, and scopes of work.

  • Review take-offs, assist with procurement planning, and help evaluate constructability or sequencing challenges.

  • Support estimating and bidding efforts by reviewing productivity assumptions and field execution approach.

  • Use lean construction planning methods, including tools such as the Last Planner System, to support proactive scheduling and coordination.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of related field leadership experience, ideally as a Superintendent or Senior Superintendent managing work as a specialty contractor or self-perform trades leader.

  • Strong experience with concrete scopes of work required.

  • Experience with larger self-perform operations on vertical commercial projects is strongly preferred.

  • Experience with drilled piers, grade beams, flatwork/slabs, and vertical cores preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Building Construction, or a related field is a plus; equivalent field experience will also be considered.

  • Strong understanding of building construction means and methods, scheduling, cost control, general conditions, contracts, subcontract documents, drawings, specifications, and trade practices.

  • Technical knowledge of concrete systems, tools, equipment, safety requirements, and field execution best practices.

  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project schedules.

  • Familiarity with lean construction principles preferred.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction safety / EH&S-related applications.

  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills.
