ENTRY-LEVEL SALARY: $48,572 annually
PAY GRADE RANGE: $48,572 - $77,716 annually (Pay Grade 311)
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Drives a semi-truck (i.e., eighteen-wheel tractor trailer) to transport items or equipment to and from specified destinations.
Hooks and unhooks trailer from truck including disconnecting and reattaching hydraulic hoses.
Operates hydraulic equipment to empty trailer.
Checks materials to ensure trailer is loaded properly.
Performs preventive maintenance inspection on semi-truck and equipment.
Operates the Track-hoe when the main operator is out.
Completes forms and submits required paperwork and documentation.
Performs other related work at the Transfer Station or in construction as required.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
Operates a company radio to communicate with supervisor.
Cleans equipment and tools.
Cleans and washes semi-truck.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of basic mechanical problems which may make equipment unsafe to operate.
Knowledge of procedures used to maintain heavy equipment.
Knowledge of the care and use of motor vehicles.
Knowledge of operating limitations of a semi-truck.
Knowledge of proper loading procedures for a semi-truck.
Knowledge of State and City traffic regulations.
Knowledge of safety precautions, practices, and procedures.
Knowledge of occupational hazards.
Ability to operate assigned heavy equipment (e.g., semi-truck, hi-lifts, backhoes, etc.) for extended periods under unfavorable climatic conditions.
Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
Ability to read and write at a minimal level.
Ability to maintain a Tennessee Class A Commercial Driver's License without restriction 57 as required by State Law.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position consists of primarily medium work, requiring the incumbent to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 20 pounds (or less) of force frequently, in order to lift/carry, push/pull, or otherwise move objects. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Current City Employees may apply, but must have completed initial Civil Service probationary period and must have received a satisfactory performance rating on their last evaluation to receive promotional preference.
Must possess a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Must possess a Tennessee Class A Commercial Driver License without restriction 57 as required by State Law.
Five (5) years operating equipment equivalent to the Equipment Operator II job classification (including a Backhoe, Boom Mower, Concrete Truck, Front Loader Hi Lift, Garbage Truck, Knuckleboom, Mini-Excavator, Multi-Purpose Sweeper, Paving Machine, Pothole Patcher, Road Grader, Roll Back Dump Truck, Right of Way Mower, Sewer Truck, Slope Master, Tandem Dump Truck, Track Hoe, and Triple Flail Mower).
