Semiconductor Metrology & Nondestructive Test Technician
Picture the start of your shift: gauges are calibrated, drawings are open, and a tray of precision components awaits your expertise. You move from optical comparator to micrometer with practiced ease, capturing every critical measurement, then verify internal integrity via ultrasonic and fluorescent methods. Each result you document protects performance in high-tech applications where quality is non-negotiable.
Day-in-the-Life
- Measure critical features—angles, radii, contours, thread leads, and more—using advanced metrology tools.
- Lay out reference points and centerlines; position workpieces for accurate evaluation and testing.
- Verify fit, movement, and mechanical function of parts and subassemblies.
- Conduct hardness checks and surface finish assessments to specification.
- Perform first-article inspections and compare outcomes to drawings and tolerances.
- Use ultrasonic equipment and fluorescent lighting techniques to uncover internal flaws or fissures.
- Inspect, adjust, and validate gauges and measuring devices for accuracy.
- Investigate defects, determine root cause, and recommend corrective steps; assess salvageability of nonconforming items.
- Generate enlarged detail views for optical comparator work and complete precise inspection documentation.
- Carry out minor preventive maintenance on inspection equipment and uphold 5S standards.
- Split time between standard production spaces and a cleanroom environment.
What You Bring
- Certificate from a technical school or one year of related education/training.
- 3–6 months of relevant inspection, testing, or manufacturing experience (or equivalent combination).
- Meticulous attention to detail with consistent adherence to procedures.
- Hands-on proficiency with calipers, micrometers, gauges, comparators, and related tools.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and GD&T callouts.
- Clear communication and disciplined documentation habits.
- Comfort working around moving machinery, chemicals, and moderate noise.
- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and standing/walking throughout the shift.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Frequent standing, walking, sitting, and fine hand use for precision tasks.
- Occasional reaching, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, and chemicals.
- Moderate noise environment.
- Close vision and the ability to adjust focus are essential.
