This includes government‑funded properties and commercial assets, as well as monitoring the fixed assets of the company from acquisition, work‑in‑process (WIP), and assets that are placed into operation, up to the time they are disposed, sold, and transferred. The role will work cross‑functionally with procurement, lab personnel, IT, and others on updating and verifying asset tracking information in the asset database. The successful candidate will demonstrate extensive knowledge in GAAP. Additionally, this role will support other accounting responsibilities, including balance sheet reconciliation. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills and be comfortable working with operations team/non‑accounting professionals and dealing with complex accounting/project codes/org codes.ResponsibilitiesPerform regular physical inventory counts of fixed assets and manage the asset tagging processProcess asset addition, retirements, cost adjustments, capitalizationMaintain a detailed schedule of work in process fixed assets and coordinate with purchase/receiving managers to provide monthly update on the status. Analyze WIP assets by projects, capitalize, and place assets in service when projects are completeTrack all assets on books by location and summarize transfer of assets from one location to another by quarterPerform periodic impairment reviews for tangible and intangible assetsIdentify potential obsolescence of fixed assets, fully depreciated assets; provide recommendations to management regarding the disposal (or not) of fixed assetsPerform analysis related to fixed assets; analyze aging assets and prepare financial metrics on assets for monthly trial balance reviewPrepare audit schedules for fixed assets and support audit inquiriesPrepare compliance reporting such as form SF‑428 to DOESupport property insurance related activities such as preparation of the property schedule of value (SOV), location, cost basis, replacement valueMaintain schedules to support tax filing requirements, (i.e., property tax, sales/use tax, B&O tax)Manage all aspects of maintaining and recording fixed assets. Analyze asset requests to ensure proper classification as a capital asset at the onset of purchase order (PO) stage, and when invoices arrive, the GL classification is accurate and consistent with POComplete monthly, quarterly, and yearly reconciliationsPerform cash transaction tracking and cash reconciliationsHandle prepaids reconciliation in conjunction with on‑site personnelPrepare journal entries, account analysis and reporting, including all fixed asset schedulesImplement policies and procedures to help improve efficiencyApply general knowledge of accounting/government policies and procedures when responding to written and verbal inquiries from stakeholdersWork closely with procurement and technical representatives to obtain dataSupport general ledger accounting including account reconciliations and journal entry postingPerform moderately complex accounting tasks/analysis, categorize data for reporting and audit purposesKey Qualifications and SkillsB.S. degree in Accounting or related field or the equivalent business‑experienceMinimum of 5 years work experience in an accounting environmentMust be proficient with Microsoft Excel and able to quickly adapt to other Finance and Accounting systems (i.e., Oracle)Experience and strong understanding of internal controlsWorking knowledge of government grant and/or government contracts is preferredHighly organized and detail‑oriented; high degree of accuracyDirect experience and familiarity with fixed assets inventory procedure is preferredCapable of quickly comprehending new information and technologiesCapable of working in a fast‑paced environmentStrong communication skills, comfortable working with operations team/non‑accounting professionals, dealing with complex accounting/project codes/org codesAnalytical/problem‑solving ability to identify, analyze and resolve problems in a timely mannerAbility to prioritize and plan work activitiesMust be team oriented, willing to operate within a collaborative, multi‑disciplinary environmentThe successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamworkJob FunctionsJob Functions are physical actions and/or working conditions associated with the position.
