Our client, a well-established civil engineering firm specializing in innovative infrastructure projects, is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented
Senior Accountant to join their finance team in Cambridge, ON.
This is a strong opportunity for an accounting professional with a background in engineering or construction to take ownership of day-to-day accounting operations, lead the close process, and work directly with project managers and engineers on project cost accounting - while contributing strategic financial insight to support business growth.

Responsibilities:- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with financial regulations and company policies
- Assist in the preparation and filing of tax returns, ensuring timely compliance with tax regulations (including GST/HST)
- Lead month-end and year-end closing processes, reconciling account balances and reviewing GL activity for accurate financial reporting
- Manage daily, weekly, and monthly bank transactions, cashflow reporting, customer payments, and other treasury-related functions
- Coordinate with project managers and engineers to ensure proper accounting for project costs, including labor, materials, and subcontractor expenses
- Perform budget vs. actual variance analysis, providing actionable insights for cost control and financial forecasting
- Collaborate with external auditors during annual audits, providing documentation and addressing discrepancies
- Maintain and monitor cash flow to ensure sufficient funds for ongoing projects and operations
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to strengthen internal controls
- Collaborate with the Executive Team and Operational Leaders on various projects as needed
- Manage inventory counts, analyzing and resolving actual-to-book inventory differences
Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; CPA preferred but not required
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in a corporate or public accounting environment
- Experience with GST/HST tax filings and other Canadian regulatory/compliance matters
- In-depth understanding of accounting principles, including accruals
- Advanced Excel skills, including VLOOKUPs and pivot tables, to reconcile and analyze large data sets
- SAP experience a strong plus but not required
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills with keen attention to detail
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, comfortable working cross-functionally with clients and stakeholders
- Self-motivated, able to work independently, and a coachable, team-oriented attitude
