As a Senior Accountant within the Group Accounting team at Thermo Fisher Scientific, you will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting for a global leader in serving science. Working closely with finance teams and business partners across the organization, you will support the monthly close process, maintain strong internal controls, and contribute to the delivery of timely and accurate financial information.

In this role, you will prepare and review journal entries, perform account reconciliations and fluctuation analyses, and support financial reporting activities in accordance with U.S. GAAP and SOX requirements. You will serve as a subject matter expert for capital expenditure (CAPEX) and fixed asset accounting, partnering with stakeholders to review investments and ensure proper accounting treatment. Additionally, you will support audit activities, contribute to process improvement initiatives, and assist with accounting integration activities related to acquisitions and organizational changes. Primary Responsibilities

  • Review and process capital expenditure (CAPEX) requests.

  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and fluctuation analyses to ensure accurate financial reporting.

  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, including timely completion of assigned deliverables.

  • Ensure accounting transactions are recorded in accordance with U.S. GAAP, company policies, and SOX control requirements.

  • Provide technical guidance to other accounting teams and financial partners

  • Partner with Finance, Sales Operations, and other business stakeholders to resolve accounting issues and support business objectives.

  • Support accounting integration activities related to acquisitions and business changes, as assigned.

  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and operational efficiency.

  • Assist with internal and external audit requests by providing required documentation and explanations.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of accounting procedures, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.

Technical Knowledge

  • Solid understanding of General Ledger accounting and financial reporting.

  • Working knowledge of SOX compliance; knowledge of ASC 606 is a plus.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

  • Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, JD Edwards EnterpriseOne (E1), or Oracle.

  • Experience with financial reporting and reconciliation tools such as Hyperion, HFM, and BlackLine is preferred.

  • Familiarity with CAPEX reviews, fixed asset accounting, and general accounting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • 6–8 years of progressive accounting experience.

  • CPA certification preferred but not required.

  • Experience with month-end close, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.

  • Experience in a multi-entity or large corporate environment preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver accurate results in a deadline-driven environment.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $103,100.00–$154,700.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
