Senior Accountant (Consumer/Retail)

Client Overview:
Our client is a growing consumer-focused company based in New York City. The organization is looking to add an experienced Senior Accountant (Consumer/Retail) to their Finance team as the business continues to grow and improve their accounting processes.

Salary/Hourly Rate:
$100k - $120k

Position Overview:
The Senior Accountant (Consumer/Retail) will play a key role in the day-to-day accounting operations and month-end close process. This is a hands-on Senior Accountant position with exposure to financial reporting, reconciliations, process improvements, and cross-functional projects. The ideal Senior Accountant (Consumer/Retail) will have a strong foundation in general ledger accounting and be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where processes continue to evolve.

Responsibilities of the Senior Accountant (Consumer/Retail):

• Own key areas of the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close.
• Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
• Maintain general ledger accuracy and supporting schedules.
• Assist with preparation of monthly financial statements and management reporting.
• Analyze balance sheet and P&L accounts and investigate variances.
• Support revenue, inventory, fixed asset, and expense accounting.
• Identify opportunities to improve and automate existing accounting processes.
• Assist with annual audits and provide supporting documentation.
• Partner with FP&A and other departments on accounting and reporting matters.
• Help develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.

Required Experience/Skills for the Senior Accountant (Consumer/Retail):

• 4 - 7 years of progressive accounting experience.
• Current or recent Senior Accountant-level experience.
• Strong month-end close, general ledger, and account reconciliation experience.
• Strong understanding of US GAAP.
• Experience preparing journal entries, accruals, and financial reporting schedules.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Ability to independently own accounting processes and meet close deadlines.

Preferred Experience/Skills for the Senior Accountant (Consumer/Retail):

• Consumer products, retail, e-commerce, or similar industry experience.
• Experience with NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or another large ERP.
• Experience improving, documenting, or automating accounting processes.
• Public accounting experience is a plus.
• CPA or progress toward CPA is a plus.

Education Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
