Job OverviewWe are in search of a top‑tier Senior Accountant to join our Corporate Accounting team at our SF HQ. This role reports to the Senior Manager, Corporate Accounting - Compensation . The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, communicative, and self‑motivated team player with solid US GAAP knowledge and direct experience in stock‑based compensation accounting.This corporate role serves as a key strategic partner & subject‑matter expert, overseeing month‑end close for compensation areas, supporting SOX compliance, driving quarterly/annual audit, and improving processes.This is a hybrid position requiring 2‑3 days a week at Okta's SF HQ.Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesAct as primary Corporate Accounting stakeholder for the FGCC team, providing guidance on compensation accounting areas (Stock‑Based Compensation, Payroll, Commissions, Bonus).Ensure integrity and accuracy of month‑end close activities; deep‑dive into journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations as needed.Partner cross‑functionally with Payroll, HR Compensation, Commission Operations, Technical Accounting, FP&A, Legal to understand transactions and ensure proper accounting treatment.Maintain and enhance internal controls over compensation accounting, implementing best practices.Lead coordination of quarterly reviews and annual audit requests, serving as key contact for external auditors.Assist in preparing internal and external financial reporting schedules and disclosures.Develop, own, and present insightful B/S and P&L fluctuation analyses, metrics, and reporting for compensation accounts, providing executive summaries and explanations.Own end‑to‑end compensation accounting processes; evaluate and implement process/system improvements for efficiency, scalability, and automation.Serve as subject‑matter expert on ASC 718, advising on new programs or changes.Research and document complex accounting issues, concluding appropriate treatment under US GAAP.Undertake ad‑hoc accounting projects and requests as needed.Qualifications & ExperienceBachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.CPA or equivalent strongly preferred.5+ years of combined Big4 public accounting and industry experience at a publicly traded company; direct Big4 candidates may apply.Direct experience with Stock‑Based Compensation accounting required.Experience in other compensation areas (Payroll, Commissions, Bonus) a strong plus.Solid knowledge of US GAAP, SEC regulations, and SOX/internal controls.Ability to partner and influence stakeholders at varying management levels.Team player adept at building relationships across organization.Strong problem‑solving, analytical, and organizational skills.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Proficiency with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office tools.Experience with NetSuite and/or major ERPs (Oracle, SAP) preferred.Compensation and BenefitsAnnual base salary range for candidates in San Francisco Bay Area: $107,000 – $147,000 USD.Annual base salary range for candidates in California (excluding Bay Area), Colorado, Illinois, New York, and Washington: $96,000 – $132,000 USD.Benefits include equity (where applicable), bonus, health, dental, vision insurance, 401(k), flexible spending account, paid leave (including PTO and parental leave).
