ABT Insurance is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Bookkeeping Audit & Tax Specialist to oversee and audit the work of our bookkeeping team while also supporting tax preparation for both individual and business clients. This role is responsible for ensuring accuracy, compliance, consistency in financial reporting, and maintaining high accounting standards across all client accounts.

The ideal candidate will have strong bookkeeping and accounting knowledge, experience reviewing and correcting financial records, and hands-on experience preparing personal and business tax returns.. A CPA designation is preferred. Full time 8:30AM-5:00PM Monday-Friday

(Saturdays may be necessary during tax season)

Salary Range: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour

Responsibilities

Bookkeeping Oversight & Auditing

  • Review and audit bookkeeping work completed by staff bookkeepers for accuracy, completeness, and compliance
  • Identify discrepancies, coding errors, reconciliation issues, and missing documentation
  • Ensure financial records are maintained according to company procedures and accounting standards
  • Monitor monthly reconciliations, journal entries, financial statements, and general ledger activity
  • Provide feedback, guidance, and training to bookkeeping staff to improve accuracy and efficiency
  • Develop and maintain bookkeeping procedures and quality control processes
  • Assist management with workflow organization and team accountability

Tax Preparation & Compliance

  • Prepare and review personal and business tax returns, including:
  • Individual returns (1040)
  • Corporate returns
  • Partnership returns
  • S-Corporation returns
  • Gather and organize financial documentation required for tax filings
  • Identify potential tax issues, discrepancies, or opportunities for clients
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state tax regulations and deadlines
  • Assist clients and internal staff with tax-related questions and documentation requests

Financial Reporting & Support

  • Review profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and other financial reports
  • Assist with year-end close and audit preparation
  • Support clients with financial organization and accounting best practices
  • Collaborate with management to improve operational and accounting processes

Requirements
  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting or related field (CPA preferred).
  • Certification: A Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN)
  • 3-5 years of professional bookkeeping/accounting experience, including tax preparation
  • Advanced knowledge of QuickBooks, Excel, and financial reporting tools.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and corporate finance principles.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • High attention to detail and confidentiality in all matters.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.
  • Previous experience auditing or reviewing bookkeeping work preferred
