Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant is responsible for performing a wide range of accounting and financial duties with a focus on accuracy, timeliness, and compliance. This position supports the month-end close process, account reconciliations, and preparation of financial reports. The Senior Accountant assists in ensuring the integrity of the company's financial data, provides analysis to support management decisions, and may take the lead on more complex accounting tasks and projects. This role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively, and a solid understanding of accounting principles and practices. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with job costing, project financial tracking, and reconciliation. This role is critical in ensuring accurate financial reporting and supporting project managers with timely and reliable cost information.

Roles and responsibilities include analyzing financial data and providing variance explanations to management, preparing and posting journal entries for month-end and year-end close, performing balance sheet reconciliations and resolving discrepancies, assisting with preparation of monthly financial statements, maintaining and reconciling general ledger accounts, supporting audits by preparing schedules and responding to auditor inquiries, assisting with budgeting, forecasting, and special projects, formulating and preparing a variety of management reports, performing job costing analysis, assisting project managers and operations teams with financial reporting, cost tracking, and forecasting, ensuring proper documentation and compliance with internal controls, continuously improving processes to enhance accuracy and efficiency in project accounting, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to resolve accounting issues.

Experience and education requirements include a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field, 35 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in the construction industry preferred, strong knowledge of job costing, project accounting principles, GAAP, and general accounting practices, familiarity with percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP/accounting systems, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail, strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines, and effective communication skills and ability to work both independently and within a team.
