    Senior Accountant - Governmental
    Contract Assignment | Onsite

    Position Overview
SuperbTech is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to provide temporary, project-based support to a public-sector Finance Department. This position will focus heavily on general ledger reconciliation, account analysis, financial cleanup, and resolution of historical accounting discrepancies.
We are seeking a seasoned accounting professional who can step into the assignment with limited training and supervision, independently review complex accounts, identify issues, research discrepancies, and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
This is a hands-on accounting role ideal for someone with strong governmental or fund accounting experience and extensive general ledger reconciliation expertise.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Perform detailed reconciliations of general ledger accounts, including balance sheet, revenue, expenditure, cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and other assigned accounts.
    • Review account activity and supporting documentation to identify discrepancies, unreconciled balances, duplicate or incorrect postings, and other variances.
    • Research current and historical transactions to determine the source of outstanding or unexplained balances.
    • Prepare detailed reconciliation schedules and supporting workpapers documenting account balances, reconciling items, findings, and recommended corrective actions.
    • Assist with resolving and clearing aged or outstanding reconciling items.
    • Prepare or recommend journal entries and other accounting adjustments required to correct identified discrepancies, subject to appropriate review and approval.
    • Review general ledger activity for proper account classification, fund allocation, department coding, and accounting treatment.
    • Reconcile subsidiary records and financial systems to the general ledger.
    • Support month-end and year-end closing activities as needed.
    • Assist with schedules, workpapers, and supporting documentation required for annual financial audits.
    • Maintain an organized reconciliation tracker documenting accounts reviewed, outstanding issues, corrective actions, responsible parties, and completion status.
    • Collaborate with Finance staff and other departments to obtain supporting documentation and resolve accounting discrepancies.
    • Perform additional accounting, reconciliation, and financial analysis assignments related to the project.

    Qualifications
    • Senior-level professional accounting experience with a strong background in general ledger accounting and complex account reconciliations.
    • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
    • Experience with governmental or fund accounting strongly preferred.
    • Previous accounting experience with a municipality, California local government, or other public agency is highly desirable.
    • Demonstrated experience researching and resolving historical accounting discrepancies and unreconciled balances.
    • Experience preparing and reviewing journal entries and accounting adjustments.
    • Strong understanding of account classifications, fund accounting, and financial controls.
    • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including the ability to analyze and reconcile large volumes of financial data.
    • Experience working with municipal ERP or financial management systems is highly desirable.
    • Experience supporting financial audits, month-end close, and year-end close activities preferred.
    • Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple reconciliation assignments, and clearly document findings and corrective actions.

    Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a senior-level accountant or equivalent accounting professional who can quickly assess complex general ledger accounts and begin producing results with minimal supervision.
This assignment requires someone who is comfortable digging into historical transactions, identifying the root cause of accounting discrepancies, cleaning up outstanding balances, and creating clear documentation that establishes a defensible audit trail.
