We're Hiring!

We are seeking a skilled Senior Accountant to join our agency'sFinanceteam. This full‑time role is vital in safeguarding the financial health of our organization. As a collaborative member of the Finance team, this positionleads essential accounting functions, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and clarity across our financial systems. The Senior Accountant oversees balance sheet reconciliations, reviews and corrects journal entries, and partners with staff to strengthen accounting practices and streamline processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Finance staff to manage core accounting functions, including accounts payable, manual journal entries, month end accruals, and purchasing card activity.
  • Prepare timely and accurate monthly account reconciliations and financial analyses.
  • Support grant management through assistance with draw requests, financial reporting, and budget development.
  • Deliver accurate, timely work on assigned projects to support leadership and ensure high-quality financial reporting.
  • Serve as the primary daily point of contact for financial operations inquiries from internal and external stakeholders, including agency leadership and vendors.
  • Act as backup Payroll Administrator to ensure continuity of payroll processing.
  • Lead audit preparation and responses for assigned accounting areas.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with program leaders, finance, and administrative staff.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Required:Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Preferred:Master's degree in business administration, finance, or related field.

Experience:

  • Required:Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience. Proficient in ERP systems.
  • Preferred:2+ years of not-for-profit accounting experience.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Proficient typing and data entry skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Time management skills and the ability to meet work demands on an independent basis.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

In collaboration with others, the mission of Family Service is to provide quality programs and services, which effectively assist and strengthen individuals and families in our community. Family Service provides more than 5,000,000 meals each year through a USDA food program in 85 Nebraska counties. This program feeds almost 21,000 children in more than 1,312 licensed home child-care facilities. Family Service delivers the Women, Infant and Children (WIC) program to 3,000 people in Lancaster County each month. Services include nutrition and breast feeding education as well as formula, milk and other staples.
