Senior Accountant- International Trade, Cost & Inventory

Location: Houston, Texas
Employment Type: Full-Time
Compensation: $115,000-120,000 annually

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant- International Trade, Cost & Inventory to join a growing international trading organization supporting U.S. operations from Houston, Texas. This role will serve as the primary accounting resource for the U.S. entity, partnering closely with teams in Hong Kong and the United States to ensure financial accuracy, tax compliance, and operational support.
The ideal candidate has experience in trading, distribution, inventory-based, or product-driven businesses and possesses strong full-cycle accounting knowledge, cost accounting expertise, and hands-on experience managing U.S. tax compliance requirements. This position offers the opportunity to play a key role in a growing operation while collaborating with an international team.

Work Arrangement

  • Initially remote
  • Transition to primarily in-office work once the Houston office is established.
  • Standard work schedule anticipated to be 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
  • Flexibility is required to accommodate occasional communication with teams in Hong Kong across time zones.
  • Occasional extended availability may be needed for urgent business matters and cross-functional coordination.

What You'll Do

  • Serve as the primary accounting and finance resource for the U.S. entity, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with U.S. accounting and tax requirements.
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation and analysis of financial statements, journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger activities.
  • Oversee inventory and cost accounting, including inventory valuation, landed cost allocation, freight, customs duties, tariffs, brokerage fees, and Cost of Goods Sold (COGS).
  • Maintain accurate inventory accounting for products imported into the United States and distributed from the Texas warehouse.
  • Prepare, review, or coordinate U.S. sales tax, Texas franchise tax, property tax, and other required business tax filings while partnering with external CPA firms on federal and state tax compliance.
  • Partner closely with warehouse, project management, logistics, and operations teams to ensure financial reporting accurately reflects inventory movement, shipping activity, project status, and overall business operations.
  • Identify discrepancies between operational activities and financial records, proactively working with internal teams to resolve issues before month-end close.
  • Work directly with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and logistics providers to ensure accurate accounting for imported inventory and related shipping costs.
  • Process international vendor payments and foreign wire transfers while maintaining accurate vendor and cash records.
  • Develop cash flow forecasts and provide financial reporting and analysis to support operational and strategic business decisions.
  • Coordinate internal and external audits and support tax advisors, auditors, and regulatory agencies as needed.
  • Establish, maintain, and improve accounting processes, internal controls, and financial procedures.
  • Support additional accounting and finance projects as assigned.
  • Serve as the financial business partner to warehouse, project management, logistics, and operations by ensuring the financial statements accurately reflect day-to-day business activity and proactively identifying discrepancies before month-end close.

What We Need From You

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum five years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and full-cycle accounting.
  • Experience managing month-end and year-end close independently.
  • Hands-on experience with inventory accounting, cost accounting, landed cost allocation, inventory valuation, and Cost of Goods Sold (COGS).
  • Experience accounting for imported inventory entering the United States, including customs duties, tariffs, freight, brokerage fees, HTS classifications, and other landed costs.
  • Experience working directly with customs brokers, freight forwarders, logistics providers, and international shipping documentation.
  • Experience processing international vendor payments and foreign wire transfers.
  • Hands-on experience preparing, filing, or supporting U.S. sales tax, Texas franchise tax, property tax, and federal and state tax compliance.
  • Experience supporting external CPA firms, tax advisors, and auditors.
  • Ability to partner effectively with warehouse, project management, logistics, purchasing, and operations teams to ensure financial reporting accurately reflects business activity.
  • Experience within a trading, distribution, import/export, wholesale, manufacturing, or inventory-driven environment.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with ERP systems.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with remote international teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA or CPA-track preferred.
  • Experience working with international organizations or cross-border operations.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing accounting principles.
  • Experience implementing or improving ERP and inventory management processes.
  • Experience with tax automation or compliance software.
