In this position a detail-oriented individual will utilize rules, regulations, and procedures to perform duties such as cash management, tenant accounting, and general business finance for a public organization all while enjoying a friendly environment with an incredible team.
At Housing Opportunities of SW Washington (HOSWWA) we work closely with local government and community partners throughout Cowlitz, Wahkiakum, Lewis, and Pacific counties to address issues of affordable housing and homelessness and to help families break the cycle of poverty. We provide affordable housing and housing assistance to low-income residents within our service area. The Senior Accountant provides services to the agency through performing a variety of accounting and financial duties related to the business and financial operations of the agency.
Your skills and experience will support our mission as you:
- Perform a variety of accounting duties in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Maintain financial records related to assigned accounts in accordance with HUD regulations.
- Calculate, create, and input data for accounting entries.
- Maintain standard operating procedures and train colleagues in order to maintain business continuity during absences
- Prepare and assist with year-end accounting and reports.
- Work with grantors and service providers to ensure accuracy and completeness of grant receipts and expenditures in accordance with funding source requirements.
- Make recommendations to improve operating processes and procedures.
- Assist colleagues with other tasks and special projects as needed and provide coverage in their absence.
- Assist supervisor with special projects, financial statements, special data requests and special reports as requested.
Pay and Benefits
- The full pay range is $26.83 - $32.04 / hour. Compensation for the position is negotiable, depending on the qualifications and experience of the chosen candidate. Applicants should not expect to start in the highest range of this salary.
- HOSWWA offers employees and their eligible family members the option to enroll in medical, dental, vision, and/or supplemental life insurance. Employees are also covered by Basic Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment and Long-Term Disability insurance.
- All HOSWWA employees are members of the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) administered by the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS). Employees may also contribute funds to Deferred Compensation Program (DCP), a supplemental retirement savings plan run by the DRS.
- Employees receive 14 paid holidays per year, paid sick leave accrual at a rate of 8 hours per month, and, following 90 days’ orientation, paid annual leave starting at 40 hours per year.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field. Relevant experience may substitute required education.
- Minimum of two years of experience in finance, accounting, or similar position.
- Demonstrated computer skills necessary to effectively complete duties.
- Ability to effectively use Microsoft suite of software programs, with proficiency in Excel.
- Ability to professionally and tactfully communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
- Preference for Washington payroll experience
- Preference for experience with Paylocity
- Experience in government or public sector financial accounting preferred.
- Experience in YARDI software preferred.
