ABOUT THE ROLE
The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial operations of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation through accurate accounting, financial reporting, budgeting support, and analytical review. This position plays a key role in maintaining compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, ensuring the integrity of financial data, and providing meaningful financial analysis to support BCRF’s decision-making.
This position is based in New York, New York. BCRF currently requires staff to work onsite a minimum of three days per week.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with BCRF monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements preparation
- Prepare and maintain accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for Affiliates
- Perform month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and accruals.
- Reconcile bank accounts, investment accounts, and balance sheet accounts.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure compliance with GAAP.
- Monitor and record restricted and unrestricted funds in accordance with nonprofit accounting standards.
- Assist with grant accounting, tracking expenditures, and preparing financial reports for funders.
- Ensure proper internal controls and accounting procedures are followed.
- Analyze financial data and identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improved financial performance.
- Prepare monthly budget-to-actual analyses and provide explanations for significant variances.
- Assist in the development of annual operating budgets and forecasts.
- Support leadership with financial modeling, projections, and ad hoc analyses.
- Develop and maintain financial dashboards and management reports.
- Assist with annual audits and coordinate requests from external auditors.
- Support preparation of IRS Form 990 and other regulatory filings.
- Ensure compliance with donor restrictions, grant requirements, and organizational policies.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.
- Assist in documenting and maintaining accounting policies and procedures.
- Perform additional job-related responsibilities and ad hoc projects as assigned

You are a detail-oriented accounting professional with progressive accounting experience and a passion for supporting mission-driven organizations. You possess a strong foundation in financial reporting, account reconciliations, month-end close processes, and financial analysis, and you enjoy turning financial data into meaningful insights that support organizational decision-making.
You are comfortable working independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams. You have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, a high level of accuracy, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. You understand the importance of maintaining strong internal controls, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and safeguarding organizational resources.

In addition, you have the following qualifications and experience:
- A bachelor’s degreein Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 3-5 years of accounting and financial analysis experience; experience working in non-profit accounting strongly preferred
- Proficient in Finance ERPs; experience working with Sage Intacct preferred
- Experience in fund accounting, grant reporting and donor-restricted funds.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Superior oral and written communication skills.
- Mission-aligned, collaborative, and comfortable working cross-functionally.
- Strong skills in Excel, and proficiency across the rest of the MicrosoftOffice suite.
Compensation and Benefits:
This is a full-time exempt role. The salary range for this role is $90,000-$100,000. Our compensation packages include an exceptional benefits package focusing on employee physical, mental and financial wellness. More specifically we offer:
