Job Description

The Senior Accountant position oversees and maintains the general ledger and financial records and statements for management.

This is a supervisory position and is not union-represented.

Essential Duties

  • Supervise and manage accounts payable, receivable, and accounting staff. Work closely with Payroll administrator. Provide timely feedback to staff and ensure open lines of communication.

  • Ensure all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems are following appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Maintains and balances service revenue subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, reconciling transactions; resolving discrepancies.

  • Supports all financial, project/program and funding source accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with funding source and program budgets throughout the contract period for government, corporate, and foundation grants.

  • Conducts monthly and quarterly account reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance.

  • Assists with budget preparation and monitoring, account analyses, internal, and external reports, audits and preparation of state and federal financial filings.

  • Assists with annual external audit; complete requested materials; and prepare assigned schedules to ensure successful audit results and compliance.

  • Advises programs in the assignment of accounting codes, credit card transactions, and various other related financial activities.

  • Documents policies, procedures and workflow for assigned areas of responsibility.

  • Review and validate semimonthly payroll for approximately 200 employees

  • Prepares payroll cost allocations per budget and funder requirements.

  • Review hours worked in the Time & Attendance system and resolve unusual items/exceptions with employees. Follow-up with non-compliant employees and supervisors.

  • Review payroll reports and validate information including any changes to employee payroll data (new employees, departures, non-standard compensation, changes, etc.).

  • Review and approve entries prepared by payroll administrator to account for semimonthly payroll.

  • Contributes to department and organization special projects as assigned.
