SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Director of Finance and Administration, the Senior Accountant performs advanced accounting work in support of the Authority's finance operations, including general ledger activity, reconciliations, journal entries, month-end and year-end close, financial reporting, budget monitoring, fixed assets, and audit preparation.

This position requires a strong accounting foundation and helps ensure financial records are accurate, properly classified, audit-ready, and maintained in accordance with GAAP, GASB, internal controls, governmental accounting practices, and Authority procedures.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

General Ledger & Accounting

  • Performs advanced accounting work related to general ledger activity, account reconciliations, journal entries, account balancing, month-end close, year-end close, and financial reporting support.
  • Prepares and reviews journal entries, account adjustments, accruals, and correcting entries to ensure accurate and timely financial records.
  • Reviews general ledger activity for accuracy, proper account classification, completeness, and compliance with established accounting procedures.
  • Monitors expenditures for budgetary compliance, ensures proper general ledger coding, and recommends budget transfers or correcting entries as needed.
  • Researches and resolves accounting discrepancies, account variances, reconciliation issues, and transaction coding errors.
  • Supports fixed asset accounting, cash receipts, bank reconciliations, revenue tracking, and account balancing as assigned.
  • Maintains accurate, organized, and audit-ready accounting records, reconciliations, schedules, and supporting documentation.

Financial Reporting, Audit & Compliance

  • Prepares financial reports, schedules, statements, and related analysis for internal review, audit support, and management decision-making.
  • Performs month-end and year-end close processes to ensure financial records are complete, accurate, and audit-ready.
  • Prepares audit schedules, gathers supporting documentation, and responds to audit-related requests as assigned.
  • Applies knowledge of GAAP, GASB, governmental accounting practices, internal controls, and Authority policies and procedures.
  • Assists with grant accounting, financial compliance, reporting support, and documentation as assigned.
  • Supports the development and maintenance of financial procedures, accounting workflows, and internal control documentation.

Budget & Department Support

  • Assists with preparation, monitoring, and tracking of the Authority's annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Reviews budget-to-actual activity and identifies unusual variances, coding issues, or items requiring follow-up.
  • Provides accounting support and guidance to departments regarding general ledger coding, documentation requirements, budget activity, and finance procedures.
  • Works closely with Finance Department staff to support accurate transaction processing, account reconciliation, and timely completion of finance tasks.
  • Supports accounting system workflows, reporting, and process improvements within NetSuite or other assigned systems.
  • Participates in special projects, financial analysis, process improvements, and operational planning efforts.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINUMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
  • Strong general ledger accounting experience, including journal entries, account reconciliations, account balancing, month-end close, year-end close, and financial reporting support.
  • Knowledge of GAAP, GASB, and governmental accounting practices required.
  • Governmental, public sector, fund accounting, or enterprise fund accounting experience preferred.
  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems such as NetSuite preferred.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Ability to apply GAAP, GASB, governmental accounting standards, fund accounting principles, and public sector financial practices to assigned accounting work.
  • Ability to prepare, review, and analyze journal entries, reconciliations, financial reports, schedules, and supporting documentation.
  • Ability to review accounting transactions for accuracy, completeness, proper classification, budget alignment, and compliance with established procedures.
  • Ability to identify discrepancies, research accounting issues, resolve variances, and recommend appropriate corrective action.
  • Ability to support audit preparation, internal control compliance, financial reporting, and budget-to-actual review.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with departments, management, auditors, vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Proficient in or ability to learn NetSuite accounting software.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT

  • Good visual acuity is required for computer work, reviewing financial records, and working under artificial lighting.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time and use a computer, keyboard, mouse, and standard office equipment.
  • This position is in-office.
