Senior Accountant
Remote, East Coast (NH, MA, or NC preferred)
We're a security integrator with government contracts, real operational complexity, and a Controller who expects more from accounting than closed months. What's missing is a Senior Accountant who can keep pace and tell the story behind the numbers, not just balance them.
What You Get to Do
- Own daily bank reconciliations across all accounts, identifying and resolving variances same day
- Run the monthly prepaid schedule and amortization, and the full accrual cycle for uninvoiced expenses
- Maintain the fixed-asset sub-ledger: additions, disposals, depreciation, and GL reconciliation
- Own assigned balance sheet reconciliations across SG&A and investigate everything that doesn't tie
- Handle inventory adjustments, cycle-count reconciliation, and obsolescence analysis
- Produce ad hoc reporting in support of government and GSA contract requirements
- Write the monthly P&L flux commentary: explain variances against prior period and budget, in plain language
- Prepare audit schedules and serve as a key contact during external auditor fieldwork
What You Have Already Done
- Held a genuine accountant title with 4-6+ years of progressive GL accounting experience, including full-cycle month-end close
- Owned balance sheet reconciliations end to end: prepaids, accruals, fixed assets, and related accounts
- Caught your own errors and other people's before close, not after
- Written P&L commentary that explains variances, not just lists them
- Worked with inventory: adjustments, reconciliation, cycle counts, variance analysis
- Used an ERP in a real close environment (ConnectWise or Sage Intacct experience is a strong plus)
- Worked under tight close deadlines without needing to be managed through them
Why You Would Do It
Compensation is $100,000-$120,000 base, plus a 10% bonus, depending on experience. You'd be working directly with the Corporate Controller at a company with real complexity: government contracts, inventory, multiple revenue streams, and a close calendar that actually matters. If you've been a senior accountant in name but still feel like you're doing staff work, this is the role where that changes. The expectation here is that you understand the business behind the numbers, flag what doesn't make sense, and take work to the finish line without being asked twice.
