Join a Growing Biotech Team as Our Next Senior Accountant!

The Senior Accountant supports day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, and compliance in a growing biotech organization. Reporting to the Accounting Manager/CFO, this role is responsible for monthly and annual close activities, maintaining GAAP-compliant financial records, and supporting compliance with accounting standards, including ASC 730.

Responsibilities include accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll coordination, fixed asset tracking, internal controls, and process improvements. The ideal candidate has 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, strong GAAP knowledge, and preferably experience in biotech, life sciences, or manufacturing.

What You Will Get to Do

General Accounting & Close

  • Support the CFO in executing the monthly and annual financial close process
  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure accuracy across assigned accounts
  • Process and monitor accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
  • Support sales tax and state filing compliance

Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Assist in preparing GAAP-compliant financial statements and internal management reports
  • Prepare audit-ready workpapers
  • Support compliance with ASC 730 (R&D) and other relevant standards
  • Assist with tax compliance in coordination with external tax advisors, including Maine and federal filings

Operational Finance

  • Track and support capitalization of fixed assets
  • Help maintain internal controls appropriate for a small, high-growth organization
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Process corporate credit card reconciliations, expense reimbursements, and vendor payments
  • Coordinate with HR to support accurate payroll processing with our third-party provider

Cross-Functional Support

  • Assist in evaluating and implementing accounting system improvements as the company grows
  • Identify and escalate technical accounting questions to the CFO

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Solid technical GAAP knowledge
  • Proficiency with accounting software
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Good communication skills, written and oral, and excellent computer skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite
  • Ability to sit for extended durations and perform continuous computer and keyboard work at a standard office workstation

Preferred

  • CPA license or active CPA candidacy
  • Experience in biotech, pharmaceutical, life sciences, or medical device accounting
  • Knowledge of Maine-specific programs such as ETIF or Pine Tree Development Zone tax incentives
  • Public accounting background is a plus
