SENIOR ACCOUNTANT — Dakota Dunes, SD | Onsite / Hybrid Flexibility

A well-established financial services organization is seeking a Senior Accountant to take ownership of key accounting functions at its Dakota Dunes, SD headquarters. Reporting directly to the Controller, you'll be a core contributor across month-end close, accounts payable, and balance sheet reconciliations — while also supporting intercompany and international accounting activities. This is a high-impact, hands-on role on a small, high-performing team that values accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

WHY THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY

  • Base Salary: $85,000–$100,000 depending on experience
  • Annual performance bonus
  • 401(k) with 3% company match
  • Medical and dental coverage available
  • Generous paid leave program
  • Small, tight-knit team — max 7 people — with a genuine family-focused culture
  • Leadership that is engaged and accessible — including a recently appointed CFO with a long-term vision for the department
  • Onsite preference with flexibility — the organization values results and trusts its people
  • Commute-friendly location: within driving distance of Sioux City, Sioux Falls, Omaha, Des Moines, and Minneapolis
  • Interview process is fully virtual

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Balance Sheet Reconciliations — approx. 35%

  • Own and manage the reconciliation of key balance sheet accounts, functioning as both the doer and the reviewer
  • Serve as a key partner to leadership in ensuring accuracy and integrity across account activity
  • Handle intercompany accounting transactions and reconciliations, including international operations with currency conversion (rupee to USD, spot rate adjustments)

Accounts Payable Management — approx. 30%

  • Manage the full AP function including invoice processing, vendor relationships, payment scheduling, and disbursement accuracy
  • This is a hands-on, doer role — you'll be in the details, not just overseeing from a distance

Month-End Close — approx. 25%

  • Prepare journal entries, accruals, and complex reconciliations during the first five business days of each month
  • Manage fixed assets including acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation schedules
  • Maintain the prepaid schedule and ensure timely amortization and accurate expense recording

Process Improvement — ongoing

  • Identify inefficiencies, propose solutions, and implement repeatable processes that move the accounting department forward
  • Bring an adaptable, forward-thinking mindset to everything you touch — this team is growing and you'll help shape how it operates

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA certification preferred)
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, including demonstrated strength in reconciliations, AP, and month-end close
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Solid analytical and organizational skills with strong attention to detail
  • Effective communicator who collaborates well and pulls their own weight in a small team environment
  • Preferred background in banking or financial services — industry knowledge is a meaningful advantage in this role
  • Public accounting experience is welcome; candidates transitioning in-house are encouraged to apply
  • Experience with Oracle NetSuite
  • Exposure to intercompany or international accounting (foreign currency, spot rate adjustments)
  • Superior oral and written communication skills
