GL Senior Accountant
Easterseals DC MD VA offers a unique opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced professional to join our team as a GL – Senior Accountant. The ideal candidate will possess strong financial management, reporting, and compliance skills, along with excellent communication and project management abilities. This role requires the ability to manage multiple competing priorities and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced nonprofit environment. Experience working with federal, state, and local funding sources is strongly preferred.
Easterseals DC MD VA is the regional affiliate serving Washington, DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia. Through a network of 10 locations and in-home services, we provide Behavioral Health, Adult Medical Day Care, Early Childhood Education, Therapy, Respite, and Workforce Development services to individuals and families throughout the region.

The GL – Senior Accountant reports directly to the Controller and is responsible for supporting the organization's financial operations through accurate reporting, reconciliations, compliance monitoring, and general ledger management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, deferrals, and other general ledger adjustments
- Perform reconciliations of balance sheet accounts, with a strong emphasis on cash reconciliations, and resolve discrepancies timely
- Assist the Assistant Controller and Controller with the month-end and year-end close processes to ensure accurate and timely reporting
- Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and explanations related to financial activity
- Ensure adherence to organizational policies, internal controls, and applicable regulatory requirements
- Work collaboratively with departments to obtain financial data and provide support related to budgeting and forecasting
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, efficiency, and reporting accuracy
Work Environment:
- Hybrid work schedule consisting of approximately two (2) days in-office and three (3) days remote/work-from-home
- Regular use of standard office equipment, including telephone, computer, printer/copier, calculator, and other office technology
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Fiscal Management, or related field required; CPA preferred
- Minimum of five (5) years of accounting experience in a similar role
- Experience with Sage Intacct required
- Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting practices preferred
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives
- Strong computer literacy skills, including Microsoft Office applications and financial systems
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and consistently meet deadlines
- Must demonstrate professionalism, integrity, dependability, and attention to detail
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
