Your Opportunity

At Schwab, you're empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us "challenge the status quo" and transform the finance industry together.

We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location(s).

As a Senior AI Engineering Team Manager supporting Portfolio Management Technology, you will lead a critical transformation of how software is built, delivered, and scaled across the Portfolio Accounting Data Loads (PADL) organization. This role sits at the intersection of cloud modernization, enterprise data platforms, and emerging GenAI capabilities, with a clear mandate to redefine engineering practices and accelerate outcomes.

You will drive a shift from traditional development approaches to a modern, AI-enabled software development lifecycle, where automation, intelligent workflows, and agentic AI are embedded across design, development, testing, and operations. Success in this role is measured by your ability to increase delivery capacity, improve quality, and simplify complex legacy systems-without proportional increases in headcount.

This leader sets the vision and direction for high-volume, transaction-driven data platforms, ensuring accuracy, availability, and usability across downstream systems. You will partner closely with architecture, product, infrastructure, security, and operations teams to align on scalable solutions and establish clear, opinionated engineering standards that accelerate delivery and reduce fragmentation.

Equally important, you will build and lead high-performing global engineering teams, evolving team structures, expectations, and capabilities to align with AI-driven development. You will foster a culture grounded in accountability, continuous learning, and adaptability, where engineers are empowered to experiment, solve complex problems, and deliver measurable business impact. Through clear communication and strong technical credibility, you will influence senior stakeholders and drive alignment on transformation priorities across the organization.

What you have

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in senior engineering leadership roles (Manager or equivalent), leading global teams in hybrid cloud environments
  • Strong experience with distributed data platforms and databases, including NoSQL and relational systems (e.g., Aerospike, SQL Server, PostgreSQL)
  • Hands-on experience with hybrid cloud architectures and cloud modernization, including migrations to platforms such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF) and Red Hat OpenShift
  • Experience with enterprise messaging and event systems (e.g., Kafka, IBM MQ)
  • Demonstrated success leading large-scale, enterprise technology initiatives with measurable outcomes
  • Strong foundation in modern software engineering practices, architectures, and delivery models
  • Practical, hands-on experience applying GenAI and AI-assisted development tools within real engineering workflows
  • Proven ability to drive transformational change while maintaining system stability and delivery commitments
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex concepts into clear, actionable direction

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven track record of transforming engineering organizations from legacy practices to modern, automated, AI-enabled development approaches
  • Experience with Microsoft C# and .NET applications in a Linux/Windows cloud environment
  • Systems thinking mindset with the ability to align people, processes, architecture, and platform strategy to deliver scalable outcomes
  • Experience operating effectively in ambiguous, fast-changing environments while maintaining a strong focus on execution and results
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence, inspire, and build trust across engineering and cross-functional teams
  • Experience building and developing AI-capable engineering talent and fostering a culture of experimentation, learning, and continuous improvement

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
