Description

Essential Functions

  • Operations - Evaluates hardware/software applications for new systems. Makes recommendations based on the Clinic's best practices. Able to successfully manage multiple simultaneous projects and initiatives. Prioritize requests/issues within a timely manner and ensure escalation processes are followed. Understanding of active directory and common security protocols. Troubleshoots Laboratory Information System (LIS) instrument application and connectivity issues. Oversee the daily operation of the LIS/LIMS, ensuring seamless data flow from physician ordering to final result release. Configure new test codes, reference ranges, and reporting criteria. Manage the interfacing of laboratory analyzers with the LIS to ensure accurate, automated data capture and transmission.
  • Vendor Management - Open and manage all tickets/requests and projects with the appropriate vendors. Communicate issues via the vendor specifications utilizing the appropriate escalation process. Ensure complete documentation for any/all government entities to ensure that the clinic is prepared for all audits/inspections.
  • Project Management - Design - Work with internal staff to determine the requirements for changes/upgrades being requested. Work with the vendor to ensure implementation plan is complete and accurate. Test - design a full testing plan for any modifications/upgrades to the system. Coordinates system functionality and interface testing events. Ensure appropriate staffing needs for testing. Coordinating outside departments to ensure testing needs are being met. Implementation - Complete a full implementation plan including post production testing and validation processes.
  • Communication - Serves as the liaison between laboratory team, system vendors, and IT team. Communicate with management any/all updates to ensure the clinic practices are followed and teams are notified appropriately. Communicate project status information via both documentation and/or verbal communications to management. Communicate all issues that may affect clinic audits or inspections.
  • Training & Documentation - Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the LIS. Train lab team on system upgrades, proper documentation, and best practices.
  • System billing validation - Validate and maintain all modifications to ensure appropriate billing for both the patients, payers, and ensure clinic revenues.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, approximately 40 hours or more a week. This position requires being on-call and working additional hours or weekends as needed.

Requirements

Required Education and Experience

Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related clinical/biological science. At least 3+ years of progressive experience in laboratory information systems, clinical laboratory operations, and/or informatics & IT. Experience with laboratory information systems and electronic medical records, to include but not limited to, SCC Soft, Epic, Clinisys PowerPath, and Beaker.

Preferred Education and Experience

Experience in a clinical laboratory setting involving the analysis of blood, tissue and body fluids utilizing automated equipment and specialized instrumentation while performing numerous complicated tests simultaneously and accurately interpreting the results. In addition, working experience with laboratory computer operations including hardware and software applications, working with lab instrumentation, and writing calculations and testing to include building rules for auto-verification. Knowledge of file building, report formats, and verification of the accurate transmission of results across all interfaces. Excellent data entry skills. Knowledge of Microsoft office including Excel and Word. Ability to build and provide reports and perform daily maintenance and troubleshooting of the laboratory information system.
