Our client is a venture-backed consumer mobile company with more than 5 million monthly active users across iOS and Android. They're hiring a remote Senior Android Engineer.
Responsibilities
- Lead implementation of major Android features in 100% Jetpack Compose, with attention to motion, accessibility, and dark-mode polish
- Own one or two feature modules end-to-end including their unit and instrumentation tests, A/B instrumentation, and rollout plans
- Improve cold-start time, app size, and frame-rendering performance via measured, prioritized work
- Partner with the product designer on every iteration; contribute back to the in-house Compose component library
- Lead Android architecture discussions and write or review RFCs for medium-sized features
- Maintain Crashlytics quality bar (crash-free sessions >99.7%) and own the triage rotation for your features
- Mentor 1-2 mid-level Android engineers via code review and pair programming
- Participate in release-on-call rotation (1 release every 6 weeks)
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional Android development with 3+ years writing production Kotlin
- Strong, hands-on Jetpack Compose experience including animations, custom layouts, and Compose Material 3
- Production experience with Coroutines, Flow, and structured concurrency patterns
- Familiarity with Hilt or another modern DI framework, plus Room and a modern HTTP client (Ktor or Retrofit)
- Track record shipping consumer-facing features through the Play Store with phased rollouts
- Strong sense of UX polish, animation timing, and accessibility (TalkBack, dynamic type, content descriptions)
- Comfort with Crashlytics, Firebase Analytics, and at least one A/B testing platform
- Bachelor's in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
