SENIOR ANIMAL SERVICES REPRESENTATIVE

This position is eligible for appointment at step 1, $55,806.40 annually. County employees are subject to the County Promotion Rule for Step Placement in Accordance with Compensation Ordinance 1.3.5.

Future Salary Increases

June 25, 2027 - 3.30% increase to base pay (3.00% Across-the-Board + .30% Market Increase)

There is an available opportunity for a Senior Animal Services Representative located in Carlsbad,

its an on-site position, no hybrid or telecommuting.

Work schedule will consist of two consecutive days off, one of which is a weekend day (work Saturday or Sunday). The work hours are 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.

A Senior Animal Services Representative performs specialized clerical and customer service duties at an animal shelter and assists the public in obtaining information regarding animal control laws, regulations, licensing rabies control, animal adoptions, and other shelter services provided by the Department of Animal Services.

The Department of Animal Services (DAS) is an animal services organization known for its transparency and effectively promoting the humane and responsible care of companion animals, reducing the euthanasia of sheltered animals, and responding to the needs of the community. DAS serves the unincorporated area of San Diego County at its shelters in Carlsbad and Bonita.

UPCOMING: A new state-of-the-art animal shelter in Santee serving the East and South Counties. It will provide a safe environment for animals and the public. Landscape enhancements will be made along the Riverview Parkway front, including a secured and open courtyard, an outdoor livestock area, activity yards, a secured staff parking lot, and a public parking lot.

Hiring Process and Timeline:

The timeline for this recruitment is outlined below.

  • Job Offer and Background Process begins: Shortly after the interviews. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.
  • Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
  • Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.

Minimum Qualifications:

1) Two (2) years of full-time experience as an Animal Services Representative with the County of San Diego;

OR,

2) Three (3) years of full-time experience working in a high volume customer service environment equivalent to an Office Assistant with the County of San Diegos Department of Animal Services, one (1) year of which must have been performing at a lead level of responsibility.

Working Condition:

Subject to evening and weekend work. On a daily basis, Senior Animal Services Representatives deal with a high volume of individuals, including irate/emotional customers or individuals who have been convicted or are charged with criminal offenses. Peripheral contact and knowledge of sick, injured and deceased animals, as well as the euthanasia of animals.

Condition of Employment:

As part of the County of San Diego's pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position. Current County employees may be excluded from this process.
