THE POSITION
With supervisor approval, incumbents may be eligible for intermittent remote work; however, they must physically reside within the Sacramento region or have the ability to regularly report to a City of Sacramento physical worksite with little notice.
This position is in the Utilities Support System Division (DOU SS) of the Information Technology (IT) Department. This position manages the department's customer billing system, Oracle Customer Care and Billing (CC&B) system. The duties of this position include supporting the CC&B system production, working with business users, analysts, and other IT teams, designing, developing, and administering applications and systems to enhance business processes, documenting system procedures, mentoring junior staff and providing after-hour application support as needed. This position reports to the lead software application developer or an IT Supervisor.

Under general supervision, the Senior Applications Developer performs a variety of professional, technical, and analytical duties involving requirements analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, administration and support of new and existing small and large scale systems and databases in a multi-platform environment that includes mainframe, client server, distributed and web based systems.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is an advanced journey-professional classification populated with multiple incumbents. The Senior Applications Developers work involves advanced concepts in the performance of their duties. The incumbents in this classification may provide oversight to other Applications Developers. The Senior Applications Developer is distinguished from that of the Applications Developer classification by the increased degree of difficulty of the work assignments, the greater level of business and technical knowledge required to perform the tasks and the potential consequences of errors by the incumbent. The work of this classification is distinguished from that of the Principal Applications Developer classification in that the latter classification is the highest level technical expert.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
General supervision is provided by an Information Technology Supervisor or other high-level manager. The Senior Applications Developer does not supervise.

Possession of a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.
AND
Experience:
Five years professional experience in information technology in a multi-platform environment doing one or more of the following: application development, database management, GIS programming, system analysis/development, and website design/development, project management.
