    Job Description
     

    Senior Architect - Capital & Infrastructure (Aviation - Civil Service)

    Overview

    The Senior Architect manages, oversees, and supervises the design, construction, and related architectural functions for the development and delivery of large-scale Capital Improvement projects for the City. Serves as the key design professional for buildings, systems, signage, utility requirements, and ADA issues for projects across the City.

    Essential Functions

    1 Directs, oversees, and supervises architectural design process on both renovation and new construction projects; manages design consultant selection, contracting process, and compilation of accurate stakeholder requirements.

    2 Reviews, checks, and evaluates designs for code compliance and maintains documents for permit process; designs and implements project schedules while protecting original scope of work and budget; adjusts scope, schedule, and budget as approved during design process.

    3 Manages construction and implementation process on both renovation and new construction projects; coordinates and issues construction documents for public bid process; manages City of Dallas approval process for award of construction contract, construction scope, schedule, and budget in partnership with design consultants.

    4 Reviews and approves consultant invoices and construction pay applications; confirms progress achieved on both design and construction to support payment; coordinates internal approval process and maintains audit-ready records on both design and construction contracts; manages close-out and turnover of projects for occupancy

    5 Serves as professional resource to tenants, design consultants, and developers as non-City owned projects are scoped, designed, and built on City of Dallas property; handles, fields, and processes frequent requests for information on how to initiate, gain departmental approval, achieve City of Dallas building permit, and satisfy all close-out and turnover requirements.

    6 Manages, oversees, and directs the work of subordinates, including recently matriculated interns who are learning the profession and industry, monitors and checks timesheets, work product, performance evaluations, and level of their understanding of department responsibilities in design, construction, project acceptance, close-out, and occupancy.

    7 Drafts, prepares, and presents reports in various forms for accurate dissemination of project scope, schedule, budget, and status.

    8 Serves as internal resource for contracting, accounts payable, architectural archives, and potential design and construction ideas, coordinates with all internal stakeholders on emergency management, security, info technology, operations, maintenance, accessibility, and facilities management in support of architectural projects.

    9 Attends and conducts training seminars and other meetings to ensure continuing education is obtained and all licensing requirements are up to date for Architects performing work in the City.

    10 Performs all other work as needed or assigned.

    Knowledge and Skills

    1 Knowledge of Architecture design and implementation

    2 Knowledge of the building and construction process

    3 Knowledge of regulatory and legal issues related to building design and construction.

    4 Knowledge of design systems and software.

    5 Knowledge of project management.

    6 Ability to supervise, direct, manage and oversee subordinate staff ensuring training, certifications, and quality work.

    7 Ability to determine code requirements, design, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing system design.

    8 Ability to manage budget, grant, and bond programs.

    9 Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

    10 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION:  

    • Bachelor's degree in Architecture from an accredited university.

    EXPERIENCE: 

    • Four (4) years’ experience as a licensed architect, including familiarity with construction cost estimating, CAD drafting, project administration, project scheduling, building materials, and methods of construction.

    EQUIVALENCY:  

    • High school diploma or GED plus eight (8) years of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
    • Associate degree plus six (6) years of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
    • Bachelor’s degree in any field plus six (6) years of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
    • Master's degree (or higher) in Architecture from an accredited university plus two (2) years of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.

     LICENSES:

    • Valid driver's license with good driving record.
    • Current License issued by the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners OR architect license from other state(s) with a certificate from the National Council of Architectural Registration Board.



    Salary Range

     

    $85,176.00 - $106,475.20


     

    The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
