What you'll do:

You are a capable, self-motivated data software engineer. You will be a member of the data engineering team working on tasks ranging from design, development, operations of data warehouse, data platform and data pipelines. We enjoy working closely with each other utilizing an Agile development methodology. Priorities can change quickly, but our team members are able to stay ahead to delight every one of our customers whether they are internal or external to Viasat.

The day-to-day:
  • Design and implement sub-second microservices on AWS and GCP using python for use in payment gateways
  • Draft diagrams and documentation supporting existing and future state architecture
  • Implement and manage cloud network and security components including subnetworks, security groups, routing and other structures
  • Design and implement data architecture constructs including pipelines, data models, data lakes and supporting application ORM's
  • Design and implement cloud infrastructure including serverless components such as Composer, Kubernetes, Cloud functions, lambdas, step functions, etc
  • Monitor and optimize existing data pipelines for performance and reliability
What you'll need:
  • 7+ years of experience in data engineering with strong knowledge in Python and/or Scala.
  • Experience in Data Warehousing technologies such as Snowflake/BigQuery along with experience on any SQL technologies.
  • Experience with RDBMS technologies (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, etc.) 

  • Experience building CI/CD pipeline and automated software deployments.
  • Experience in design and implementation of robust and highly scalable Data services 

  • Hands-on experience with Airflow, Spark or Kafka.
  • Experience working in cloud environment AWS/GCP.
  • Familiarity with Bigdata and data processing ETL/ETL technologies.
  • Problem-solving experience and possess a DevOps approach.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related Engineering Disciplines.
What will help you on the job:
  • Experience with GitHub Actions
  • Hands-on experience writing REST interfaces
  • Familiarity with analysis of systems requirements, identifications of gaps, and advise on implementable solutions
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, cloud-based infrastructure, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and other networking concepts
  • Experience with Big Data and Streaming technologies like Kafka and Spark 

Salary range: $165,000.00 - $260,500.00 / annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $205,000.00- $307,000.00/ annually  : At Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience.
