The anticipated hiring range is $86,004 to $96,000 per year; $7,167 to $8,000 per month. Position opened until filled.About the PositionThe Engineering and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Librarian is expected to support teaching, learning, and research in the College of Engineering and related programs. The successful candidate will serve as the primary liaison to departments in engineering, computer science, and technology fields, providing specialized research assistance, instruction, and collection development.This position requires familiarity with discipline‑specific research tools and emerging technologies relevant to engineering education and practice. The librarian will provide guidance on AI‑powered research and discovery platforms, computational tools, and specialized databases commonly used in engineering workflows. The successful candidate will be expected to stay current with evolving AI applications in engineering research and integrate appropriate tools into library instruction and consultation services.The successful candidate will collaborate with campus partners to support AI and data literacy initiatives, the ethical use of AI tools, and computational research practices. Therefore, an understanding of artificial intelligence, data science, and emerging technologies and a demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to emerging digital tools and platforms is highly desirable.Required QualificationsMaster's degree in library science or equivalent (MSLS, MLIS, MALS) from a library school program accredited by the American Library Association. Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of degree by August 1, 2026.Demonstrated potential to achieve tenure through effective job performance and scholarly and service activities.Ability to work collaboratively with academic librarians and staff, teaching faculty, and students in a rapidly changing information environment.Experience and/or demonstrated ability in reference and instructionally related activities.Exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including low socioeconomic and first‑generation students.Preferred QualificationsUndergraduate or graduate coursework in engineering, computer science, or related STEM field.Experience providing library support and services to engineering and/or STEM disciplines in an academic setting.Knowledge of or experience with AI tools, data analysis, or machine learning applications in education or research.Experience of successfully working with populations demographically and/or socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body.Experience mentoring or supporting students with minoritized identities or experience using inclusive and culturally relevant teaching strategies in a diverse classroom.DutiesProvide in‑person and online reference services at the research and information services desk, including evenings and weekends.Conduct instructional and outreach activities for academic programs in CSULB's College of Engineering, using in‑person, hybrid, online, or any combination of instruction modes.Responsible for collection development, evaluating, selecting, deselecting, and reviewing information resources in relation to curricular and collection needs of CSULB's College of Engineering.Provide specialized instruction and consultation on AI‑powered research tools, computational platforms, and discipline‑specific databases used in engineering and computer science research workflows.Maintain current knowledge of emerging AI applications and technologies in engineering education and research and incorporate relevant tools and best practices into library services, instructional programs, and research support.Engage in creative and scholarly activities (research, publication, and presentations) to meet the requirements for tenure and promotion.Engage in library and university governance, including library and campus committees.Participate in service as outlined in the Retention, Tenure, and Promotion policy to the department, university, and community.Learning Opportunities and BenefitsLibrary administration encourages participation in professional development activities, including conferences, courses, workshops, and other programs.Newly hired librarians are assigned a support team of tenured and tenure‑track librarian mentors that provide guidance through the tenure process.Library faculty can participate in Faculty Center and Academic Technology Services (ATS) professional development programs, workshops, and sessions aimed at supporting teaching, scholarship, and service.#J-18808-Ljbffr
