You'll run your own docket of complex, high-stakes divorce and custody matters — with real trial reps, not just settlement work.

The Opportunity

Most family law associates spend years drafting for someone else's strategy. This role is different: you'll be the lead attorney of record on your matters from day one, with full ownership of case strategy, client relationships, and courtroom execution. The firm is growing and needs a Senior Associate who can carry a serious caseload independently while helping mentor the associates and paralegals underneath them. You'll report directly to the Managing Partner — a direct line to firm leadership, not a layer of middle management between you and the decisions that matter.

This is a role for someone who wants to try cases, not just settle them, and who's ready for the professional visibility that comes with being a client's primary point of contact on the hardest day of their life.

What You'll Own

  • Full case management on a caseload of contested divorce, custody, and support matters — from intake through trial, not handed off at the hard parts.
  • Courtroom advocacy: motion practice, evidentiary hearings, and trials where you're the one standing up, not second-chairing.
  • Client relationships as the primary contact — translating legal strategy into plain guidance for people under real stress.
  • Drafting and negotiation of settlement agreements, prenups/postnups, and judgments that hold up.
  • Mentorship of associates and paralegals — reviewing their work, sharpening their courtroom instincts, and setting the bar for how the team operates.
  • Direct visibility with the Managing Partner on strategy and firm growth — this isn't a role where your work disappears into a black box.

What We Need From You

Must-haves:

  • Admitted to the New York State Bar, in good standing.
  • 5+ years practicing family law, with at least 10 trials completed — this is a courtroom role, and that number is a real filter, not a formality.
  • Strong working proficiency with Westlaw/LexisNexis and Microsoft Office.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Certified Divorce Specialist designation — if you don't have it, the firm supports getting it.
  • 30 hours of mediation training or 15 hours of Collaborative Divorce training — same: come in without it, finish it on the job.
  • Familiarity with CLIO Grow, CLIO Manage, or Family Law Software — useful, but not a dealbreaker if you're comfortable learning new systems fast.
