They ensure financial records align with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or governmental standards while leading audit preparation, testing internal controls, and working directly with auditors.

Key Responsibilities

Auditing & Compliance

• Audit Coordination: Coordinate all aspects of annual, quarterly, or periodic internal and external audits.
• Documentation & Testing: Prepare audit workpapers, trial balances, supporting schedules, and pull sample transactions to verify record accuracy.
• Internal Controls: Evaluate, test, and monitor internal accounting controls to prevent errors, spot discrepancies, or mitigate financial risk.
• Policy Review: Audit purchase requisitions, expense reports, and departmental accounts to ensure compliance with company policies or statutory regulations.

Core Accounting & Financial Reporting

• Close Processes: Lead or assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end general ledger close cycles.
• Reconciliations: Review complex balance sheet reconciliations, bank statements, and cash flow reports.
• Variance Analysis: Analyze financial trends, budget-to-actual variances, and operational expenses to support management.
• Staff Guidance: Mentor, review work for, and guide junior or staff accountants.
