For UK Only Postings: The Craneware Group supports a flexible work environment as well as a collaborative and teamwork focused atmosphere. Employees will be expected to work a hybrid working arrangement spending 40% of their time per month in the Tanfield office - approx 2 days per week.
The Team
As a Engineer, Automation, you will lead the design, development, and evolution of automated testing solutions that ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of Craneware products.
Working within Agile delivery teams, you will drive quality engineering practices, build scalable automation frameworks using Java, Cucumber (BDD), and Selenium WebDriver, and help embed quality throughout the software development lifecycle. You will partner closely with Engineering, Product, Architecture, and DevOps teams to support the rapid delivery of high-quality software.
You Will Be
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable automation frameworks and test solutions for web applications, APIs, microservices, and cloud-based platforms.
- Lead the implementation of automated functional, integration, regression, end-to-end, and non-functional testing.
- Drive adoption of BDD practices using Cucumber (Java) and Selenium WebDriver.
- Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines to support continuous testing and delivery.
- Design and execute API, database, performance, load, and stress testing strategies.
- Ensure sufficient test coverage, automation reliability, and release readiness across products and teams.
- Collaborate with Developers, Architects, and DevOps Engineers to improve testability, automation effectiveness, and overall software quality.
- Define, monitor, and report quality metrics, automation coverage, and testing effectiveness.
- Support the management of test environments and test data strategies.
- Mentor and coach QA team members on automation frameworks, coding standards, and quality engineering best practices.
- Contribute to automation standards, technical documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
You Will Bring
Required Experience
- 5+ years of experience in QA Automation, Software Testing, SDET, or a related software engineering discipline.
- Proven experience designing and maintaining enterprise-scale automation frameworks.
- Experience leading automation initiatives and mentoring other QA professionals.
- Strong experience working within Agile teams and CI/CD environments.
Technical Skills
- Advanced experience with Java, Cucumber (BDD), and Selenium WebDriver.
- Strong understanding of automation framework architecture and test design patterns.
- Experience testing REST APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.
- Experience with API automation tools such as Postman, REST Assured, or equivalent.
- Strong SQL and database validation skills.
- Experience with Git, Azure DevOps, and modern source control practices.
- Experience testing solutions hosted on Microsoft Azure, AWS, or similar cloud platforms.
- Experience executing performance, load, and stress testing activities.
- Understanding of object-oriented programming, clean code principles, and software engineering best practices.
