Build the future of machinery with Erdman

Erdman designs and builds automated industrial machinery for the window and door industry. We are a world-class leader in automation and system integration. Visionary thinking. Exceptional doing.

A day in this role

In the morning, you translate customer requirements into clear mechanical concepts, producing models and drawings for complex machine assemblies. Throughout the day you coordinate with Machining, Welding, Purchasing, and Assembly, present design intent to teammates and clients, and keep multiple projects moving on schedule. At times, you travel to customer facilities to observe manufacturing processes, validate assumptions, and refine automated solutions. You close the day documenting the build process and verifying design consistency across equipment.

What you'll do

  • Develop designs and technical documentation for mechanical devices and equipment used in automated systems.
  • Own complete machine assemblies from concept through detailed design while adhering to company design procedures.
  • Engage directly with customers to clarify machinery requirements and define automated processes.
  • Prepare and deliver design presentations to internal teams and customers to confirm needs are met.
  • Track the progress of several pieces of equipment at once, ensuring uniform standards and accuracy.
  • Create clear documentation to support the machine build and assembly process.
  • Collaborate closely with Machining, Welding, Purchasing, and Assembly teams.
  • Occasional travel to customer sites to understand manufacturing concepts and processes.

What you'll bring

  • 5+ years of relevant mechanical design experience.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and advanced problem-solving skills.
  • Hands-on familiarity with industrial automated equipment, including gear reduction, servo systems, and VFD-driven motion.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor (or comparable 3D CAD).
  • Desirable: AutoCAD, macros, Visual Basic, and Excel.
  • Clear, confident communication; able to operate independently and as part of a team.
  • Calm under deadlines; machining and assembly know-how.
  • Proficiency in mechanical design/engineering and blueprint interpretation.

Tools & technologies

  • CAD software (Autodesk Inventor or similar; AutoCAD as a plus).
