About us

Aeva is building the next generation of sensing and perception for autonomous vehicles and beyond. With its unique ability to measure instantaneous velocity for each pixel, long-range performance at high resolutions while being free from LiDAR or sunlight interference, Aevas 4D LiDAR is built from the ground up at silicon photonics scale for mass-market applications.

Role Overview

Aeva is seeking a Senior Automotive Reliability & EMC Test Engineer to own validation and compliance testing for automotive LiDAR systems through DV (Design Verification) PV (Production Verification) and production readiness. This role requires a deep understanding of automotive qualification philosophy, not just test execution. You will be responsible for translating OEM requirements and international standards into defensible test plans, identifying risk early, and ensuring our LiDAR products meet automotive durability, EMC, and functional robustness expectations.

This is a hands-on role with high accountability, direct interaction with OEMs and third-party labs, and strong influence on hardware design decisions.

What Youll Be Doing

Automotive Reliability & Qualification 50

  • Own automotive reliability and qualification strategy for LiDAR systems and critical sub-assemblies.
  • Define and execute DVPV test plans aligned with ISO 16750 environmental & electrical loads, IEC 60068 OEM-specific durability requirements.
  • Lead environmental and life testing, including thermal cycling and thermal shock, vibration and mechanical shock, HTOL (High-Temperature Operating Life), HTOE (High-Temperature Operating Environment), damp heat, humidity, corrosion, contamination, exposure.
  • Drive single-fault robustness validation in support of DFMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and safety concepts.
  • Perform and lead failure analysis working cross-functionally with EE (Electrical Engineering), ME (Mechanical Engineering), optics, firmware, and systems teams.
  • Define pass/fail criteria, degradation limits, and design margins, not just run the test.
  • Ensure test coverage maps clearly to DFMEA failure modes and OEM expectations.

EMC & Electrical Validation 50

  • Own automotive EMC compliance and robustness testing, including CISPR 25 emissions & immunity, ISO 11452, ALSE (Automotive Lighting and Safety Electronics), BCI (Battery Charging Interface), TEM (Transients), ISO 7637, transients, ISO 10605, ESD (Electrostatic Discharge), IEC 61000-6-X.
  • Define EMC test modes and operating states aligned with real vehicle use cases.
  • Lead pre-compliance testing and debug partnering closely with EE and layout teams.
  • Drive EMC mitigation strategy - filtering, grounding, shielding, harnessing, and layout guidance.
  • Plan lead and technically represent Aeva at third-party EMC test labs.
  • Support OEM EMC reviews, audits, and issue resolution.
  • Program & Cross-Functional Ownership

Act as the automotive validation point person for assigned LiDAR programs. Interface directly with OEM customers, Tier-1s, and third-party test houses. Ensure traceability between Requirements Test plans Test results FMEA closure. Identify validation gaps early and push for design or test strategy changes before late-stage surprises.

What You Have

BS or MS in Electrical Mechanical or Systems Engineering 5 years of automotive hardware validation experience Demonstrated ownership of DVPV or qualification testing for automotive electronics Strong working knowledge of ISO 16750, CISPR 25, ISO 11452, ISO 7637 Experience supporting OEM technical reviews or audits Comfortable challenging designs based on test data and automotive risk Strong documentation skills, test plans, reports, customer-facing data Experience with ADAS sensors, LiDAR, radar, camera, or other safety-relevant ECUs Prior experience at an OEM or Tier-1 automotive supplier Familiarity with DFMEA single-fault assumptions and robustness validation Experience coordinating multiple test labs across DVPV phases

Salary

$125,800 - $170,200 per year Salary pay ranges are determined by role level and location. Within the range, the successful candidates starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, certifications, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges are subject to change in the future. Depending on the position offered, equity bonus and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, pre-tax commuter and healthcare dependent care accounts, 401k plan, life and disability benefits, flexible time off, paid parental leave, and 11 paid holidays annually.
