Description
As a Senior Battery Engineer, you will design and test new lithium-ion battery packs for use in Impulse’s current and next generation space vehicles. You will work directly with mechanical, electrical, thermal, structural, manufacturing, and test teams. You will have the opportunity to contribute to all phases of spacecraft development, from concept to full rate production as part of a fast paced high reliability environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop new lithium‑ion battery packs to meet mission requirements
- Own battery pack safety, test, and qualification plans
- Develop, manage, and maintain all design documentation including CAD, ICDs, BOMs, etc
- Act as the Responsible Engineer working closely with the program and manufacturing team through build, test, and delivery of flight hardware
- Own full product lifecycle
- Interface with electrical, mechanical, manufacturing and test teams
- Perform electrical, structural, and thermal simulations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical or aerospace engineering or related field
- 5+ years professional experience in battery development
- Experience with automotive, aircraft, or spacecraft battery design, test, and manufacturing
- Familiarity with lithium‑ion cell and pack qualification and safety standards (ie UN 38.3)
- Hands on experience troubleshooting electronics
- Ability to communicate technical challenges, explain rationale and/or resolve concerns
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Master’s degree in mechanical, electrical or aerospace engineering or related field
- Experience in development of hardware relevant to spacecraft
- Experience in a startup or agile development environment
- Experience with Simens NX, Teamcenter, Simcenter, and ANSYS
- Experience with Altium Designer
- Experience in design of harsh environment analog and power electronics
- Experience in design of electro-mechanical assemblies
Additional Information:Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity.
